for a while now the charlotte press has basically operated as the propaganda wing of the team. while im sure there's not a shadowy cabal full of nazi jews secretly running things, reporters are smart enough not to bite the hand that feeds and the team only allows the kind of stories they want to be leaked. Players that break this (see beason last year) are quickly made to repent.
I think it's fair to say that we can make some educated guesses about where the team is going to go judging by the articles that gantt, chandler et al write about the team.
2007
coming off a rather unimpressive year, the Panthers signed David Carr for reasons we shouldn't debate about in this thread. However, as Zod and Meat have mentioned many a time, reporters weren't even allowed to talk to David Carr.
If you'll remember, pretty much ever article from a local reporter followed the lines of jake getting ready to bounce back, how the competition would bring out the best in him, etc etc, and there was never really a qb position battle.
of course the performance david carr might validate that
2008
coming off a blown up shoulder and a young, promising rookie, I can't remember a single thing written that took matt moore seriously as competition. it was all about jake being better than ever, jake coming in ready to retake the wheels, jake being in the best shape of his life (the one quote in particular about jake having pecs now instead of just boobs from steve smith). the qb battle wasn't very legit. True, moore didn't shine, but he also started with the twos from day one.
2009
following his insane implosion vs. arizona, every article written talked about how the massive contract extensions a. gave the panthers cap space to wiggle with and b. was rewarding him for a great career. they all kinda assumed the arizona game was a fluke, and any questions about his future were shot down.
i vividly remember them struggling in the preseason and gantt, chandler et all just shrugging it off as rust, and as soon as the season started they'd get back on their feet.
whelp
2010
after the season ended this year, pro matt moore articles began to flood the internet from the usual suspects. it was all about how matt had made the transition, matt was ready to lead, jake was supportive of matt, then boom jake is in cleveland getting staph.
now.....?
i don't know about you guys, but maaaaaaan are people favoring clausen from what I've read.
now here's a gif and a yt
