Look people have been hunting since the beginning of time. Though now we can go to the store and buy all the food we will ever need, its not done as a necessity anymore. I know a lot of hunters. They all respect nature and the outdoors more than yall know.

Hunting for sport is utterly stupid. But to put down people who use rifles and tree stands and other modern technologies is dumb. Native Americans use to cover their scent. I'm sure they even baited animals also. ( I have to look that up) Once Native Americans got a hold of rifles they used them for hunting too.

Now me personally I only bird hunt. Ducks and doves. I stoped dove hunting a few years ago because of something I read about them. I was looking up recipes for dove when I saw something that said doves mate for life with their partner. So that stopped my dove hunting.

Now I mainly shoot trap, ***** and sporting clays.

My Dad always told me, "Never shoot an animal unless you're trying to eat it, or it's trying to eat you."

it's been a long time, but I used to be an avid hunter. Now, when I say hunting, I mean, up before dawn, hiking for miles on end, and if fortunate enough, bag a deer, gut it, bring it home, skin in, hang it and EAT it!

Hunting to me isn't driving around all day in your $50,000 4X4 and hoping something hops out on the road in front of you!

Great exercise, a fantastic way to be out in nature, the fresh air...I miss it!

was he a vegetarian? Just curious!

I do find it funny when people are all against hunting, but they are totally ok with eating burgers and steak and chicken etc!

not saying that is you...just brought up the thought

I know plenty of hunter down here and i've been out on a few. I just have a real problem with killing something i'm not gonna eat.

Dove is one thing. They make great stew meat.

Deer meat is wonderful in chili.

That's about the extent of it.

I can honestly say i've never been hunting if i didn't plan on eating whatever it is I killed.

I can promise you one thing...I can prep any wild meat and you would have a hard time knowing if it was beef or wild...taste wise anyway!

It's all in the animal prep and the food prep

Deer meat is 10 times better for you than any cow. Deer meat has hardly any fat.

Elk meat kicks ass!! The thing with any wild game though, it all depends on where you find it.

If you shoot a moose for example around where I live...they are really really good....but travel 300 miles north and they are crap as those ones live in the swamps!

They are what they eat, thats for sure!

Then why bother?

Part of the joy of killing game is the different flavors. I don't want my duck tasting like chicken and I don't want my venison tasting like beef.

I grew up in a family of outdoors-men. We were taught early how to kill wildlife, how to clean, store, prepare, and eat it, but more than anything how to respect it. Its in no small part because of DU and their offshoots that many of the wildlife preserves in this country exist. For every dollar I spend on ammo I give a like amount to a conservation organization and while my amount may be atypical I'm not unique.

Id bet hunters as a whole do more to protect wildlife than all of the tree huggers, gun grabbers, and nature lovers combined.
