What was the straw that broke the Fox's back?

Eagles game. Week 1 of 09 season. 1st game following the AZ meltdown.....letting that occur (an almost indentical meltdown) to your team in back to back games was the straw that broke the camels back. What occured in both those games to end 08 and start 09 was not just poor QB play.....it has pathetic coaching. The stubborn, round peg -square hole, mindset Fox has had success with.....but it is also his biggest flaw.

yeah this as well.first game of the year your supposed to be ready and those guys just did not show up.that alone is the coaches fault.im still having nitemares of that game being it was the 1st i actually attended.

One big thing that could warrent Fox walking is his play "not to lose". mode.

When he first got here, lets be honest, we didn't have the talent to compete, so he was 150% correct in his strategy: slow the games down, run the clock down, grind it out, keep it close, and hope to win it in the end. But sometimes I feel that he hasn't evolved with the team.

Our talent level now is MUCH better than when he took over. We now have the talent to actually whip up on some teams. Yet...seems his strategy doesn't change. He still coaches like our talent is inferior. This a sure fire plan for failure unless luck is on your side and my opinion is that JR is fed up with that type strategy.

That's a good point KatzAss...I really never thought about evolving with the team. Good point bud!

I don't think he's playing not to win so much, as he knows a good winning formula. That is controlling the clock/tempo of the game, and play good defense. Doesn't matter the talent level on the team, that strategy still wins when executed.

I don't know what yall expect from him. To have Davidson call mostly passing plays, and throwing the ball all over the field? That works real well.

I do say we need to be more balanced, and mix up the play calling better than we have.

I doubt JR is fed up with that strategy just cause the fans are.

Is this not the ultimate test to see how good of a coach Fox really is??!!

Now that we have a few good qbs, maybe we can be a little more balanced now

If Jerry Richardson is fed up with the way John Fox runs this team, he just needs to hire an elite defensive coordinator. Confused? Well Bill Cowher's, the man that some Panthers fans and the media seems to think is the answer to our "problems", winning percentage without Dick LeBeau on his staff is worse than John Fox's winning percentage with us. Dick LeBeau has also been on the Steelers staff for all of their recent Super Bowl wins.

So if JR is tired of us being a "mediocre team", he needs to go out and hire an elite defensive coordinator, or maybe in our case an offensive coordinator, for Fox because it sure worked for the Steelers

Fox is a good coach.

I think that is what most fans fear. That Fox will get this team to a winning season, and he'll be extended, again.

What exactly will Fox show Richardson that he hasn't already done over the last 8 years?

Have back to back winning seasons? Can't do that this year.

Win with a bunch of backups and replacements. He showed in 2004 that he can do that.

Take a team to the Superbowl. Yeah he did that.

Win a Superbowl? Won't do that this year either.

The bottom line is that richardson has enough to know if he is the future or not. Not extending him already clearly shows me at least that he has made up his mind and is just letting Fox coach this year to not lose 6 million by firing him and if there is a lockout next year, won't have to pay anybody.
