Secondary coach Mike Gillhamer noticed Martin's increased confidence in his play at minicamp. "He did a really nice job in the minicamp as far as taking a leadership role a little bit and knowing what he has to do," Gillhamer said. "He's feeling more comfortable with the position and he's got a little bit of experience now."

Whether Martin lines up at free or strong safety remains to be seen. He started at free safety in college, but Godfrey has manned that spot for the Panthers for the last two years.

I think Martin is a better free safety than Godfrey. I think he can be the ballhawk we need at the position.

I'm glad to see Martin stepping up into a leadership role! Gamble needs a little help leading the secondary. We have our leader at LB with Beason, but who will be our leader on the DL though?

His injury history and the Panthers' lack of depth at safety is a concern.

I think Brown can eventually be that guy for us. He certainly has the work ethic and the right attitude.

they will have the same job, just on different sides of the field.

we don't really use a traditional SS anymore. what we needed was two quick safeties that can do both safety jobs.

i'm tending to believe that we have that now.

I really don't think we will see much of a drop without Harris. Godfrey will be moved to SS, Martin should excel at FS. Expect to see us moving Godfrey up towards to line for blitzing/run support a lot this season. Martin will be a ball hawk.

Anyone know where Pugh is projected?

This could be a issue for us, because Godfrey has exhibited piss poor tackling techniques since he has been here. I really hope if they plan on moving him to SS he puts in some work on his tackling skills. I like that he sticks his head in there, but just make sure you are going to do the job if that's the case.
