DeAngelo Williams won't complain about his contract

99 posts in this topic

Can we even sign him because of the no cap? I cant remember what players fall under that rule but we have about 3 that we cant sign till the season is over. I think Dwill is one of those players that we cant give a contract too even if we wanted too.

He shouldn't have to complain. He's now the best player on our offense and deserves a new contract. If JR doesn't give him a new contract I would consider him a jackass. Our running game was the only true bright spot on our offense until Moore got the passing game going. Letting DWill or JStew walk would be completely stupid.

The o line has been way better for Stewies first two years then D Wills. I'm not saying deangelo didn't have some things to work on when he came out, but I'm not sure if that's really fair.

not to mention that he was getting way less carries behind foster, than stewart is behind williams.

i like both of them equally. i think they are equal talent, but stewart might have a tiny edge as far as upside and youth is concerned, but deangelo more than makes up for it with his leadership and intangebles. i hope we find a way to keep both of them happy.

problem is that JR is getting cheap on us(at least until we know more about the CBA), and if our new pass game is lights out this season, deangelo may become expendable, especially if jerry is still trying to slash the books. i sure hope not though. i would like to have them both for the next 5 years. they compliment each other.

Why do people feel the need to hate on a player on their own team? Yes have a favourite player, it doesn't mean you should try to belittle the achievements of rival players at the position. I will support anybody associated with the Carolina Panthers and be the best homer I can be(especially when arguing with Cowboy fans)!

It always sucks when a Williams, Stewart, Moore or Clausen thread turns into a hating competition between fans of the same team!

i agree. its especially hard to read all of the people bashing claussen, calling him a fine young male and all that stuff. i guess they are going to not like our team soon, because Claussen will be the starter sooner than most people think. i think by 2011, if not at some point this year.

I don't see the panthers wanting to get rid of williams at all.

Although they better try to get him a new contract before he hits the free agency market, cause another team will definately offer him more money to be their rb. While the panthers would continue to move forward with stewart, and probably another rb, it wouldn't be the same chemistry and leadership the panthers currently enjoy from williams and stewart.

He desreves to get paid, its been numerous games were he was the only person to score sometimes more than 2 tds.I hope our owner can climb off his wallet and start paying these guys bc this is getting ridiculious.I'm no fan of jerry and haven't been for a while now.

If it wasn't for this CBA nonsense he would have been paid.

As I have said before, JR is trying to lead the owners by not extending contracts and protect his business for possible lock-out.

We are possibly seeing the end of a lot of fan Favs in Charlotte. Davis/Kalil/Williams.

How would you feel if you had exceptional talent and your work refused to pay you because the owner wanted to make a point.

i wish i had more faith in JR, but i really beleive that the new salary cap will be about 20% lower that it was last year. that means we probably wont be able to sign all of our core guys with contracts coming up. since williams has stewart behind him, he unfortunately, may be more expendable than some of the other guys with alot of drop off at production behind them like kalil, or thomas davis.

i think we have about a 50% chance of losing him.

Smitty said the same thing about his contract.

Screw Andre Johnson.

Exactly. I understand what Richardson is doing but what will be the cost? These players aren't going to thank him for his stance since in the end it really is a prelude to battling with the players union anyway in an attempt to take away some of the money they currrently enjoy. When it is all said and done Richardson will be seen as a businessman who was self-serving and did what was best for himself despite any problems it caused for the team or the players.

Which is fine right?

Just as long as everyone remembers that each player sees themselves as a business as well and will do what it best for them regardless of how it effects the Panthers or the team. Any loyalty that players had for the Panthers or Richardson is being eroded away. Players will go elsewhere just because they feel that they were being disrespected by the organization.
