BAD, BAD, NEWS!!!

Restricted free agent Tyrus Thomas is on New Jersey’s radar as a fallback plan and could get a frontloaded offer sheet that would end his brief tenure with the Charlotte Bobcats, league sources said.

Thomas has expressed a desire to keep playing for Bobcats coach Larry Brown, but it seems like owner Michael Jordan and GM Rod Higgins are willing to let Thomas get an offer sheet before making a decision on paying him. The Bobcats would have seven days to match after Thomas signs an offer sheet.

I'm told by someone with ties to the Nets that outgoing GM Rod Thorn (who's still in charge of spending their free-agent money) would have genuine interest in Tyrus Thomas if other options fall through. The Nets have misgivings about Derrick Favors' ability to start quickly at power forward.

The Bobcats and the agents for restricted free agent Tyrus Thomas continue talks that both sides describe as "cordial," but don't look for a quick agreement on a long-term deal. Agent Brian Elfus never anticipated that they'd have a deal in place when the NBA announces next season's salary-cap figure Thursday.

To hell with the luxury tax for right now, our #1 priority ought to be signing Thomas to a long-term deal.

Sources say that the Nets are strongly considering making an offer to either Tyrus Thomas or Luis Scola to fill their hole at power forward. Both Thomas and Scola are restricted free agents, which means that the Bobcats and Rockets can match any offer. ESPN.com
