1.1 million tons of methane is released in the Siberian arctic shelf very year with little effect. that is way more than even the most grossly exaggerated estimates of how much methane is in the gulf coast.

it's bunk.

thanks. i didn't source because it was just a blurb i saved in a text file because i knew this topic would come up here.

as you can see in that article, there is a hell of a lot more methane being released than what is in the gulf coast.

According to that article, it's actually 7.7 million tons of methane released. That distances it even more from the Gulf Coast estimates.

Meat releases about 6.4 million tons of methane a year... all by himself...

the only problem I see is that methane is a really potent greenhouse gas

Yep. Rodeo's right on this one. Methane release is a very common occurance.

In fact... cow farts are more of a worry than this "bubble" popping.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cattle

There are 1.3 billion cattle in the world.

http://www.telegraph...ming-study.html

They release 1000 to 8000 liters of methane a day.

So... that's between 1.3 Trillion to 10.4 Trillion Liters of methane produced a DAY by cattle... averages to be 5.83 trillion liters of methane a day, or 5.83 billion kiloliters a day.

http://www.ajdesigne...uation_mass.php

At 1 bar, the density of methane is .717 kg/m3. Using our handy dandy converter above, we can then calculate the metric tonnage of the gas released by cow farts to be:

mass (m) = 4,180,110 ton metric

Every day.

So go eat a hamburger. Save the world!

Dammit how did cows get in here when Jangler was so sure he finally had a bead on Obama.

Too bad it's not sheep, then some could thrown in a sheeple remark or something.
