Armanti Edwards....

Was talking to DG yesterday. He made an interesting point that if Armanti continues to struggle and cannot seem to get the punt return job he may not make the active squad this season. My thinking is that no matter what he makes the squad based solely on the pride of the front office and what they spent to draft him.

Thoughts>?

So he's not enough of a value to have at WR only if he can't do PR? Wow, that makes them look pretty silly.

He wouldn't make the squad today as only a WR. He has to be able to get the punt returns job.

They can't put him on the practice squad, New England would snatch him up.

What's up Zod I'm real new to this but its ok I'm getting better. That's why simply put (even though I like the kid and all his talents) he shoulda been drafted in the fourth round no trade. That just wasn't necessary to give up valuable picks in the future. But I'm defiantly not trying to stir that up its just the truth of the situation or we should've stuck wit the normal bpa....

No, he won't be practice squad, but they can find a reason to deactivate him for a season.

When was the last time they put a third rounder on the practice squad? I don't even think they did that with Rashad Butler.

If Edwards can't return punts, he'll start limping around the facility on the coach's instructions and be placed on IR with a mystery hammy pull.

I think he will make the team..but wont see a lot of playing time because Moore will take his spot in the slot.

Atiyyah Ellison.

Armante needs to "cut his foot" on a lawnmower again and be put on IR for the season.

Maybe we could trade him to NE for their 2nd round pick next year?

DG said active roster?

So he thinks he'll make the team but not get a jersey every week a la Dwayne Jarrett?

Suppose it's possible, no way he doesn't make the team though.

Brings back memories of Eric Shelton.... another early round pick that flopped.

Shelton was a legitimate 2nd round pick though. If the Panthers hadn't drafted him, someone else would.

Edwards was a 4th/5th round pick that the Panthers traded next year's 2nd for.

Exactly. He'll make the team, he just may not be activated most Sundays.

I'm actually a fan of the Armanti pick, but I don't know why this is surprising. A year ago the man was playing quarterback -- it's going to take him some time to learn any new position. I think he'll get there, but it's going to take a while.

I really didn't expect to see much of Edwards this year anyway.

It's just a bit early to say he's flopped.

Agreed, they did jump the gun on it. I thought for sure he would be around in the 3rd or 4th rounds. Hopefully he'll pick it up.

Conditioning is a much bigger factor at WR, he will take a while to get it together. Edwards will take a year to get WR down.

You guys cant be serious.

After one fuggin week yall are calling him a bust.

This is embarrassing.

Give the kid a break, just because the front office used a 2nd round pick on him and he isnt ready yet, doesnt mean he sucks.

So quickly how you guys forget that a certain player with the # 89 didnt start as a dominant receiver. But became one after starring as a punt returner.

I expect this from Panthro, but not others. Yall are better than this.

That's actually a really good comparison. Smitty made his mark on ST before anybody gave him a chance at WR. Edwards and Smitty do share a lot of the same attributes especially when you look at the size of both players. Edwards sheer athletic ability alone should get him through the fundamentals to earn a spot on the 53 man roster. I like the kid, just was making the comparison over the hope I had for Shelton back in the day too.

Did you call Shelton a bust after his 3th day at training camp?

Smitty easily won the PR job.

Armanti can't seem to catch a punt consistently.

I am not calling him a bust. I am saying he may be deactivated this season if he doesn't improve. Yes, its only been a week, but the first preseason game is less than 2 away.
