Theory is that this contract offer plus a new DC keeps him in the fold.

Valid? Don't know.

Possible? Very.

Going off of the unfounded assumption that Peppers is simply not happy with Trgo, and that's his only beef.

I'm more of the mindset that Pep, being a Carolina boy and playing for Carolina, is feeling the enormous amount of pressure from the otherworldly expectations that folks here have for him. I think he wants out and a fresh start

Reading his non-comments on his way out of the locker room at season's end, Gantt and Reed took the negative slant on it. Chandler took the comments as ambiguous, which is how they sounded to me too.

Outside of those comments (which came straight out of the John Fox School of How to Say Nothing) it's pretty much all rumor and speculation at his point.

Pep will sign for even less than the original deal once it is shown that changes will be made to the Defense, most notably, Mike Trgovac.

I could see someone such as Edwards being brought in, but don't be surprised to see Sal Sunseri promoted either... You heard it here first!

So stick with the exact same defensive philosophy by promoting a guy that has worked under Trgo and Fox....Sounds like a plan.

That's possible. I also think Mr. Scot has a valid argument too - though at this point Pep might not even want to play under Fox anymore if you want to go down that line of thinking.

I don't think the Panthers are just going to let him walk in FA. I do think that the only way Peppers is here next season is if he's franchised, and his agent can't work out a trade. Otherwise, he's playing on another team next season.

So, a player will dictate to the owner and head coach about the coordinator the head coach hires. Which undercuts the authority and respect of the head coach. Which says what about the head coach exactly?

I don't think he's dictating anything. If he's not happy playing under Trg, he has every right to try and get the hell out if the Panthers are going to keep things status quo. I've never heard him say "It's Trgo or me"

Pep hasn't said anything at all really, I was responding to posts here that suggest that's what Pep is demanding/waiting for.

Pep waiting for it and demanding it are completely different...

He's already said he didn't want to leave us in a bind in so many words, and think about what losing him would mean...

Yeah, I took the "dont want to leave team in a bind" to mean that he'd accept a trade that is favorable to both parties.

No insider here, and as I said in that thread, I really don’t know much about Sunseri. It was just a hunch based on the fact we’ve had a successful and aggressive defensive line during most of his tenure. Plus, Trgovac was a defensive line coach, too. :)

Dimbee - I don't buy the fact that Peppers is feeling the heat in Carolina and is looking to vacate. If anything, signing a huge contract with a new team is going to bring more pressure to bear (no pun intended) than simply signing a new deal in the place he is already used to playing.

I'm a firm believer that Pepp wants a fresh start in a new scheme that allows him to use his talents more than he believes they are being used now, although you'll never hear him come out and say it.

For the Panthers, having someone like Pepp leave for those reasons could make it similarly unattractive for recruiting free agents to play for the Panthers. Losing a quiet leader speaks louder than losing someone like a T.O. who complains no matter what role they play on the team.
