Popular theory up till the announcement was that Peppers could be persuaded to stay if Trgovac were canned. All the public talk now is that he's leaving no matter what happens. It sounds pretty firm, but carey wouldn't be the first agent to posture with "no way" only to change his tune later.

I still think he's gone, and in the end it might be for the best, but I tend to always take agent-speak with a grain of salt.
