But up until this point he refused to acknowledge the game's meaning and his players sank to his level.

Well perhaps that's just a take on coaching philosophies? Perhaps "BMFD" looks at the bigger picture while Tom O'Brien looks local? It is a double-edge sword, both coaches lose if they think either way.

tarheel fans measure the season's success in wins and losses. state fans measure success by beating the tar heels. thus defining your own inferiority.

Yeah I guess Michigan doesn't really care if it beats Michigan State. Alabama couldn't care less about Auburn. Oklahoma looks past Oklahoma State. There is absolutely no rivalry in Florida between FSU, UF, and UM. I guess UNC doesn't have any rivals...how boring.

I love it! Walmart fans wil never understand a rivalry because Central Piedmont Community College and Wake Tech never really had any rivals.

haha, no i get the rivalry. like when we beat phil rivers' teams when the heels were terrible.
now that the tar heels have a solid coach and team i think the rivalry game matters more to wolf pack fans, that's all.

its like in 2005 in basketball. do you think we cared more about beating dook or winning the title?

I took up a collection to keep Matt Doherty at UNC. Amato was let go bc he couldn't beat UNC among other things. John Cooper was fired because he couldn't win against Michigan but he won 3 Big 10 championships. Lloyd Carr went 6-7 vs OSU but won a National Championship. Alumni want to beat their rivals. The ole UNC alum does not want his team losing to State. Trust me. $$$ talks.

Not to mention the last 3 years we've won while being plagued with injuries, and this year we only have 1 serious one (kicker). Will be interesting to see how that plays into it...

i'm a UNC alum and i do enjoy beating state in any sport. however, i'd take a winning record and a bowl bid over beating a crappy team who claims they're our "big rival" every time.
similarly, wolfpack alums will continue to place the "rivalry" game over a winning record everytime.
again, reinforcing their inferiority.

Bunting was kept the coach at UNC that long because of who he beat not because of his record.

OK and i think ALL UNC fans are glad he's gone and happier with who he was replaced with ... soooooo arent you supporting my statements?

edit: actually beating miami probably had more to do with keeping him around....
