1st rule, ignore profootballtalk.com - it's a tabloid.

The whole premise of this stupid write-up is that DeAngelo might be free because there have been no contract negotiations. The author fails to realize the Panthers haven't talked contract with ANYONE yet because they are waiting to see what the new CBA looks like.

Thomas Davis said the FO told him they would resign him. It sounds like DWill hasn't heard anything. At least Davis has talked with them at least about coming back.

no, he didn't.

he made it clear he wanted to finish his career at carolina, and he said he felt confident they would offer him an extension.

no one has come out and said a straightforward yay or nay.

He said he's had talked to them and feels confident they will resign him. The key part of that is that he's talked to them.

Edit:

“That was a concern going in, but I know what I’m capable of,” Davis said. “I have the utmost respect for the organization, and I feel like they’re going to do a great job of handling the free agency situation. I’ve pretty much been assured by them that I’m going to be a Panther, so I hope that it all works out.”

Hurney said they plan on resigning him as well. With that said, I'd bet D'lo's back next year.

If we somehow screw up re-signing D'lo, it would be beyond to stupidest move in our franchise's history. There's no way, no matter how stupid we think the FO is that we wouldn't re-sign him.

His agent Jimmy Sexton told Darin Gantt of the Charlotte Observer that there have been no meaningful contract negotiations between the two sides. That’s no surprise for anyone that has watched how the Panthers have conducted business of late

They'll franchise tag him. Watch.

The day we lose Williams I will die a little inside. The day we loose Smith I will die a lot inside. I fear for the future of our team.

teams don't just let one of the best players at their positions walk for nothing.

and don't bring up Peppers; he openly voiced his desire to get out of Carolina. as far as I know DeAngelo hasn't said a word about wanting to leave.

This. He would not have been IR'd unless they wanted him back.

What does that have anything to do with them keeping him? Maybe he said "the hell with playing for this sorry ass team" and said he wasn't playing another snap this year so they put him on IR so it wouldn't look so bad to the media......
