First time I saw his throwing motion I said "WTF is that and why wasn't it corrected during training camp"

Yeah, it's pretty bad when balls are barely skimming over the top of linemans heads. It's generally not something that's corrected very easily, though, which is why it's my main issue with him.

When has our current coaching staff ever developed a QB, though? We'll see how he responds with new coaches and a new system in place. Assuming our new HC doesn't run him out of town to bring in his own guy, which is very possible.

Same way you could tell Jarrett was garbage even with Delhomme throwing him the ball last year. Same way teams evaluate prospects from spread and gimmicky college offenses. It makes evaluation harder but not impossible, basically just ignore overall production and stats and look at the skillset.

Right now alot his problems are typical rookie mistakes and they look alot worse being in the terrible system/playcalling/supporting cast that we have. Footwork is bad, needs to sell the play action much better, looking off defenses and not staring down receivers to name a few. These things can probably be developed in a year or two, the main thing that worries me as I mentioned is that low sidearm throwing motion. Seriously doubt he makes any noise in the NFL if he doesn't fix that.

QBs go thru more growing pains than any other position. it's the one position that the team needs to cater to in order for a rookie to be successful.

that didn't happen for clausen.

when/if it does, his throwing motion might not even be an issue. an o-line that doesn't get pushed back 5 yards as soon as the ball is snapped could sure help.

i'm not a clausen fan...i'm not a fan of QBs period.

one thing i am is smart enough to know is that clausen was placed in a situation that isn't beneficial for any rookie QB, regardless of his throwing motion.

Passes barely high enough to make it over lineman where they can easily be batted down isn't something that needs to be fixed? lol alrighty then

Either fix that or you have to move around in the pocket and find passing lanes. Drew Brees probably does this better than anyone in the league and helps him make up for his lack of height. But either way something has got to give.

nice of you to quote part of a sentence and take it out of context...then respond to it.

wanting to draft luck isn't hating on clausen. the jury is still pretty far out as far as i'm concerned.

the desire to get luck is only a matter of taking advantage of a better looking prospect that most people have been saying is the best prospect to come along in a decade. clausen was just seen as a good QB. luck is seen as one of the great ones to come out.

we don't have much invested in clausen. we have a second round pick with a $2.5mil contract (essentially peanuts). we don't even have a year with him being the man. he came into the season as the backup in a system that (supposedly) was built around matt moore's strengths. we will have a new coach bringing a new offense in. if he wants to draft who he and most others watching him believe to be a better QB, why not?

if we had traded next year's first rounder for him it would be different. if we had drafted him in the top 5 and given him a $45mil guaranteed contract, it would be different. if he had flat won out the job and took command of this offense, it would be different. if we weren't going to be changing coaching staffs and most likely the offense around, if he was entrenched into the role as the franchise QB it would be different...but none of that is the case.

clausen can be a fine QB in the right situation, with the right offense. i just don't see why we should be limited to him. i don't see why we should be so committed to him. if we have a chance to improve the most important position on the team without costing us too much, why wouldn't we? sure, it will take the first pick overall and may be a $45mil or whatever guaranteed deal...but if it gives us an elite QB that will be around for many years, wouldn't it be worth it?

if you want to be the best team in the league, these are the type of things you have to do. you have to get yourself the best QB possible.

When we got our QB coach from Cleveland he stated he wasn't going to attempt to change Delhomme's throwing motion, what makes you think he will change Clausen's? Wait... why are we paying him again?

Bad things happen when you mess with a motion a person has used all of their footballing life.

what's really bad is that they needed it changed because it was hurting their performance. there were some bad habits that needed coached out and were addressed too late.

i have a feeling that part of moore's problem was the RIPple effect, but there were some things that were going to be causing him problems. chief among his problems, imo, was his tell. you always knew when he was going to throw the ball because he would do a quick double tap on the ball with his left hand and then launch it. some QBs do it from time to time, but no one near the amount that moore did. i can't remember moore doing it much this year, though, but he also didn't seem like he was playing the same way he was last year. rip may have tried to coach him out of it and it may have gotten in his head.

that it didn't succeed is more a failing of moore than it is rip's, imo, if that is the case. same with jake. jake had some really bad tendencies that needed improving, but he couldn't handle the change.

btw...not defending rip...i'm just not going to blame him for having uncoachable and limited players to work with.

He will be our best quarterback in franchise history. Better than Delhomme. Will people quit the bashing on Clausen. Remember that he's only a rookie. Even Favre didn't have a good rookie season so quit all the drama with Luck. Luck will only be as good as Bradford. So yall peeps that keeps bashing on Clausen, don't become Clausen's fans overnight when he turns into "Favre". So prove me wrong in two yrs that Clausen is a bust.

Favre didn't play his rookie season. People need to quit trying to compare him to great NFL QBs....his rookie season isn't comparble to any of them.

People will quit bashing Clausen when he gives them a reason. People can understand him being a rookie.....right now he has had a enough starts where he should have shown something more. Bottom line.

Denver said they were going to work on his throwing motion. That isn't something that is now completely fixed.

He has one NFL pass on a quick out. That is it. He hasn't shown to be anything other than the exact same QB he was in college at this point

I find it funny you want people to quit bashing Clausen based on him being a rookie, yet you say he will be our best QB ever based on nothing. Making that claim is just as ignorant as calling him a bust after a couple games.
