I think they'll just double their coverage of the Yankees and Red Sox.

How true......IMHO it's the old north-south thing (along with the points listed above). Most of the national media is HQed in the northeast. They reguard us as moonshine swilling, toothless inbreds, screwing our cousins.

not necessarily

if Dallas was first in line to pick you'd have to swear off sports media to avoid the huge blue and silver star branded dick they'll be wagging in front of you from the winter to late spring

somehow even being a guaranteed 5th-10th pick they'll get nearly as much attention as we will

I don't care what they think, I only care what J.R. will do about it.

I agree to an extent.

But even if the media bashes the ownership, city, fans, etc....Any coach in his right mind knows this is a great coaching opportunity.

This team is two years removed from having the 2nd best record in the NFC. This team has two (possibly three) anchors at running back, an all pro at MLB (stupid to ever even think about moving him outside), and up and coming pass rusher in Charles Johnson, low expectations for the next year from the fan base, and the number one pick.

Heck, this team can realistically be rebuilt to at least be competitive next year with some pieces along the offensive line, and a QB who doesn't play like a p***y.

If JR comes out of the gate and is willing to spend some money. The next coach is really going to be in a good situation to rebuild this team and begin his legacy here in Charlotte.

what?

espn/the national media only care about one thing, and that's the latest hot story. in 2003 the panthers were that hot story, and the media slurped our balls the way they did the saints last year. same thing. bottom feeder teams in 2003 didn't get any coverage.

if we rise to the top next year - get luck, an exciting coach, great FA's - they'll be back to slurping our nuts. that's just the way it goes, the way it's always gone, the way it always will go.

This team is really bad, I actually think the media is still catering to us. They make excuses for all of our players and even made optimistic comments about our running game when it was dead early in the year.

Bashing the town, owner and players? Anyone watching the games and following the team should be doing that, no need for beat writers. JR basically tossed this season away. Shows how much he cares. A lame duck coach and a gutted roster filled with young players?

What a joke.

I would take the time to list the good parts this team has and the fixes for the bad, but your statement has shown me already you don't care to see facts and would rather wallow in despair and self pity.

I see quite the opposite, you are the one who ignores the facts and thinks everyone's out to get the Panthers.

If that's the case how come every time I hear about the Panthers, all I hear is how great a coach John Fox is, how all the players play hard, how Steve Smith is so great, etc.

They always blame the QB and Jeff Davidson which is fair enough.

How funny would it be if we get Luck and he lives up to his potential..

We would always been on ESPN then and a lot of new members will show up.

The national media has a long history of ignoring and treating the Panthers unfairly. The media has a bias toward large market teams, while teams like the Panthers and Jags are swept under the rug. This season isn't a good example of how the Panthers are mistreated and ignored by the national media. However, you don't have to think back very far to remember an instance when the media took a metaphorical dumb on the Panthers. Just last season the Panthers destroyed the playoff bound Vikings late in the season. Matt Moore had a great game, and our defense, led by Peppers, put so much pressure on Favre that the coahcing staff wanted to bench him for fear of injury. It was truly thrilling to watch our team play at a high level in all three phases. ESPN didn't even bother to acknowledge that we played well. They took the angle asking "What happened to the Vikings? How could they have fallen so far so fast? What does Favre have to say?" Ect. No mention was made of how the Panthers played a great game. No interviews. Nothing. Their bias coverage didn't shock me. I expected it. It's always been that way.

We're terrible now, so announcers and the media make fun of us. Fair enough. They're laughing. Look at the Gaints game. Remember when they filmed Jeff Davidson putting his hands on his head after a Moore INT? The announcers were laughing and putting their hands on their heads and mocking Davidson. Ever seen that done before during a game? Sure the media kisses up to Fox from time to time. Fox is extremely popular in New York, as former DC, they didn't want him to leave. Eh this is getting long. In short, I'm not happy with the national media's coverage of the Panthers.

Yea that Vikings postgame coverage was ridiculous. It was all about how 'the Vikings didn't show up today' and then it was Favre drama with Childress. Nothing about how we thoroughly dominated an '09 favorite on prime time. It makes sense to media outlets. Certain teams (and players) make more money than others so why bother with those that don't?

Very nice read.....the Panthers have not lost their fan base and I can see it at every home game. As far as the media ignoring us; nobody wants to cover a two-win team (unless of course you are Dallas)....I can remember the '03 season and the mega-attention that we were getting on tv and the papers.
JR is in the drivers seat for an incredible turnaround but we will continue to be sub-par unless he comes off the hip this off season.
