Per a league source, the Carolina Panthers will interview Rivera.
The Bears’ defensive coordinator during their Super Bowl season of 2006, Rivera had said that he won’t consider any opportunities until the Chargers’ season ends. But that declaration came at a time when it appeared that the Chargers season would extend beyond Week 17.

-------

Chargers confirming it

@berniewilson: Norv Turner says #Panthers given permission to interview #Chargers DC Ron Rivera but have not contacted him yet

@sdutChargers: Carolina has asked for (and been granted permission to talk to Ron Rivera. He has not been formally contacted by them yet.

That's a good start in the search for a HC.

Not a bad option.

And a 3-4 defense as well.
The debate will begin that he'll water down to a 4-3 if he comes here. ;)

I'm fairly certain he doesn't count as a rooney rule interview, this guy is hispanic and the rooney rule is for blacks only.

yes.
And a better candidate than Grimm or Schottenheimer, provided he has an in with some offensive guys that aren't Ron Turner.

I would rather try getting a off. minded coach for once.

What is JR thing with DC 2 HC option?

Not a bad choice, but I would like to get an Offense mind type of coach instead right now. Though he done wonder for the Bears defense.

Had one of the best 4-3's in the league when he coached ChiTown.
Dimbee recommends him.

I hope he would be willing to accept a DC role asst.head coach. I really want us to take a more offensive pass approach this coming year and pick up an offensive guru i.e. Harbaugh

I like it. He's a hell of a DC.

Can he bring Philip Rivers with him? Please?

He had one of the best defenses in Chitown because he had tons of a talent at the prime of their peak and a good run offense, not to mention Devin Hester was having his break out year.
