A.J. Green thread

Smitty is getting older and his trade value is a factor to the F.O. (well it should be), there could not be a more perfect time to trade, not saying we have to but my point is that betting on Gettis and Lafell as #1 and #2 at this point is a sure mistake. Yes they did alright but guys they have not even played a full season yet. No one knows if they are going to be consistent among other things. Even with Smitty staying, AJ is sure to fill a #1 role. Obviously A.J. Green is the smartest choice for number one overall this year. It would be nice to trade Smitty to get more picks but the latter picks should go to the d and o line, picking for need with the #1 overall instead of beast talent is not a smart move. DTs can be found in FA and a new QB might be worth waiting for with the poor available prospects, or picking someone later on.
Oh and AJ is coming out. He sold a jersey of his for $1000, I think that sums it up. He is also from the Carolinas. I am not trying to dis Gettis and LaFell but if even one of them ends up average and smitty continues downhill we are stuck with one receiver that we are betting will be #1 material.
Everyone wanted Green and it was for good reason. He is a stud wide receiver and would instantly help out the offense and even an average QB, but especially a vet QB. Like it or not he is talent worth the #1 overall and I don't think many people would disagree.

1. Cam Newton
2. AJ Green
3. Patrick Peterson
4. Nick Fairley
5. Prince Amukamara
Green is going to be a heck of a player.

I say do it. More WR is not a bad thing, especially with this anemic Panthers team. Gettis and Lafell could develop, but I still see at least one of them flunking it.
I'm onboard the Green bandwagon.

who's to say green is going to be #1 material? he could not pan out just as much as gettis or lafell. gettis and lafell have played an entire season of pro football and got better as the year progressed. aj green hasn't played a down in the pros, who's to say he'll be the hot poo coming out of college?
The draft is a crapshoot and we invested 3 picks at WR last year, I'm pretty sure we aren't grabbing AJ Green for that reason alone.
i'm just stirring the pot by the way. DANCE PUPPETS DANCE!!! MUHAHAHAHHA

your argument can be flipped around on you very easily.

Any draft argument can be flipped around. There are no guarantees. I jsut think it is a bit odd people around here want to spend the #1 overall on a running QB who has played one year of college, when there is the best WR prospect in years and is being compared to Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Johnson and Randy Moss.
3 picks in WR last year but we spent our highest on a QB. Qb prospects look bad this year but we should still take one early. Also my perspective comes from the standpoint that this will NOT be a winning team next year and we will probably have better quality to chose/trade from next year.
f**k u : )

A likely argument will be: Well who's gonna throw him the ball?
And I would ask people thinking this to realize that 1) we won't be playing Foxball next year 2) We will have 1-2 new QBs besides Clausen 3) we'll have a new playbook hopefully better fitted for the talent on the team.

AJ is the best WR prospect in quite some time and the sole remaining "cant-miss prospect." (there were only two to begin with)
The guy is monster, and seeing our teams major need to upgrade on offense, he's definitely a viable candidate.
He's the ONLY guy in this class who wouldn't be a reach at 1.
With Smith getting older, Green should be a huge possibility come April.
