Dave Toub has been one of the better special teams coaches over the last few years. You have to attribute some of that to Devin Hester, of course, but Hester doesn't do coverage and the Bears have been good at that too.

Naturally, the hope would be that this guy has soaked up enough knowledge and wisdom from Toub to do it himself.

That kid kicking for Auburn is good too right?

Who cares if he is clutch if we aren't in the football game? Find someone who can do both and open that roster spot up.

Yep, if we don't have that spot open for 6th-string defensive back Chode Ferguson, we're going to get blown out of every game next year.

John Kasay has earned the right to stay here until he says he's done. If he can still be automatic in the 40s and kick 50 yarders, not to mention the fact he gets his knee tightened every damn week. He earns it, if we have to get a KO specialist and give him the reigns for long field goals so be it. Otherwise the better option is to get a Punter who can also do KO's. Replacing his accurcy is much harder then people think. He can leave when he decides too.

I think it is freaking time we had a kicker that can also kickoff, easier said than done tho.

You'll eat those words if we get a kicker who can't be counted on to make a FG to win a game.

Exactly. There is no reason we can't go out and find a guy that can handle both duties.

Look at the Saints. They have kicker issues. They wouldn't have had to go on the road for the playoffs if they had a reliable kicker. Kasay is better than any kicker in the league not named Vinaterie (sp?) who kicks in a dome.

People don't realize what a valuable commodity we have in John Kasay. Not that I expect anybody to, as we've had him forever, but every time I see a team lose a game because their kicker went 2/4 and 0/2 over 40 yards, I quietly thank the Panthers for keeping JK around all these years. You simply don't throw away a kicker that can hit them from 50 yards still and is automatic inside 40. If it takes an extra roster spot, then so be it.

I would rather cut Jason Baker and sign a punter that can also kick off than cut Kasay and have to replace his FG accuracy.

Agreed.
