Some of Nemesis is oout of date and overstated, since Bush is history and the voters have spoken, public opinion is obvious, and if I am to believe the early signs of this administration, a different approach will be tried.

The success of this approach remains to be seen, but it could hardly do worse.

I'm a bit more worried about domestic economic issues ATM, since the meeting I had with my financial advisor last night included the words "Depression" and "Bonds", and we weren't discussing mental health and baseball.

The OP has many valid points, not the least of which is a likely need for a shift in how we view future conflicts. I think the days of massive technology advantage to win wars needs to be tweaked a lot. The days of set piece battles between large armies is gone. Likely we will indeed be fighting insurgent types that don't wear uniforms and fly planes or navigate warships with flags clearly displaying enemy colors.

It reminds me a bit of Billy Mitchell, the guy that pretty much told the army and navy to wake up and smell the airplane, the aircraft carrier and naval aviation. Also to be ready for a Pearl Harbor, etc. and for his trouble got a court martial and ignored by Dugout Doug MacArthur.

Our military will come around, just not as fast as many would like.

At least Nemesis was somewhat understandable. Star Trek V was the absolute worst, guilty of terrible storytelling, awful effects, and mental rape of all the characters. Scotty knocking himself out, then waking up to Uhura putting the moves on him made me physically ill.

Well, 1, 5, and Nemesis all sucked really bad. But at least 5 didn't have colliding spaceships, or the dumb idea of killing data but replacing with him with a dumber version of himself. :)

That's true, but at least Nemesis did not have the double disaster of William Shatner directing himself.

And 1 was not exciting, but it's worth watching for the Enterprise fly around alone. For people who had been watching the same 3 flybys on TV for a decade it was really something.

Aside from the fact that our military has been the proving ground for the bulk of new technology developed in this country, which we now use everyday - I'd rather have it and not need it, well you know...

If we had listened to the Fizzes of the world in 1940, we'd all be speaking Germanese.
