At best, Newton is a project... we already have one of those.

By the way, Im not convinced the Panthers ever wanted or were as high on Luck as our fans were, they sure didnt act like it those days leading up to the Orange Bowl.

Agreed the fact that people are talking about Newton as a first rounder shows how weak this draft is at quarterback with Luck out of the picture.

It is still early. Lets see what happens at the combine. Guys like Locker and Gabbert each have reasons they weren't that successful at the college level last year. Just like having a great college career doesn't always translate to the NFL, sometimes having a mediocre college year doesn't mean you can't play at the NFL level either. Both these guys are projected to do better in the NFl than they did in college. Wouldn't be surprised if the stock of one or both don't shoot up after the combine and individual workouts.

every rookie QB is a project. just because we have one doesn't mean we should stick with him without a plan B. newton is as good or better than any QB in this draft...and at best, Newton is a stud QB. like him or not, ceiling is really high for him.

Lets see what he can do with some concentrated work by an NFL Qb coach. I suspect just like The Golden Calf of Bristol last year, if his footwork and football knowledge of the pro game becomes apparent in the interviews, he could shoot up the boards. People keep forgetting he is a quick study as evidenced by his grasp of Auburn's spread offense in the period of less than one year. Luck needed 2 years in Harbaugh's system to pick things up although it is obviously more complex than Auburn's. It really depends on how short the Panther's window is for the draft pick to start.
