Peanut Plant Knew Products Contained Salmonella Before It Sold Them
Peanut Corp. of America, a Georgia-based company at the center of a deadly salmonella outbreak, knew as far back as 2007 that products it was selling were laced with salmonella, according to inspection reports.
The Food and Drug Administration had initially said that PCA shopped around for tests that came back negative for salmonella, but amended its report recently to reflect that the company sold some products that tested positive for salmonella.
The subsequent salmonella outbreak has caused at least eight deaths and sickened 575 others, as more than 1,550 products have been pulled from shelves. The outbreak has hurt all peanut-product producers, as sales are down by a quarter.

some folks think that we don't need an FDA, corporations can test food themselves.

It appears as though, for the most part, the FDA feels the same way.

Concerned about a salmonella outbreak involving peanut products that has sickened 550 people and is blamed for at least eight deaths, Obama says he wants to review how the Food and Drug Administration operates.

getting down on the pharmy companies would make a believer out of me. The FDA is way underfunded for what it does.
