We will just have to disagree then, because I believe Cam would infuse a ton of excitement in to this franchise and that it could be sustained even without a Super Bowl victory. I believe most fans just want to see an exciting brand of football that is consistently competitve, and if we can win a Super Bowl within the next 5 years, that's just icing on the cake.

Kind of like Vince Young infused into Tennessee?

I would much rather the Panthers draft Cam than trade away picks for Orton.

I am not necessarily against Vince Young if they do pass on Cam. I would rather that than trading picks for Orton. Now if they think Cam can be the guy, then I would rather that than Young.

Anyone who would be for adding the likes of Vince Young to the Panthers should not be allowed to discuss the QB position....because they certainly do not understand what makes a good one.

VY has been a CANCER in Tennessee. The coaches wanted him gone....all but about 5 players wanted him gone.

To say Edwards is the same as Newton is way off, I won't say it's the stupidest thing I've seen on this board, but in no way are they the same QB. Newton played in the toughest conf. in NCAA football. Do you think we would draft Newton only to ask him play WR? Well that's exactly what we did with Edwards. Just don't see what would make someone think that about Newton. If Edwards had played well at Alabama or Florida, he would've been a first rounder for sure, and we would'nt be asking him to be a WR, doubt we'd have him at all.

I like you MadHatter, but you might as well call KT out by name if you're going to make this kind of post. You might as well just come out and say that Cam will be a failure because the other big, black, fast QB was a failure and they're all the same...because I promise you that's what KT's sees in this type of post, whether you mean it that way or not.

I am not campaigning and calling for the Panthers to bring in Young. Maybe I should have stated this more clearly and have in other threads - my point was that if the people who evaluate, make the decisions, etc pass on Cam and they end up looking at other QB options - if they felt Young might work here I would be ok with and not against it. Lets let our coaching staff and GM make that decision. They should at least look into it should they pass on drafting a QB.

I guess maybe you were fine going into last season with Moore and Clausen, the season before with Jake and Moore and this season with Clausen, Pike and bringing Moore back in for another shot. Or maybe trading more picks and get Orton (who Denver is not going to trade, unless they get blown away by an offer) or an unproven QB in Colb. Lets continue to not look at and evaluate for ourselves how this team might be able to do something and just not even considered a QB who could come without trading the farm and is available, possibly as a free agent. Worse case scenario if he is this cancer you cut him just like the Titans did and are in a no worse situation your in now and didnt trade picks to do it.

AGAIN.... I am only saying - if the Panthers pass on drafting a QB - that they should at least look at and consider Young.

So you'd rather watch this laughing stock of a team, become even more of a joke. Just to get a player that doesn't want to be here?

Ok, man.

I've said it before, but some don't realize the trend.... In the last 10 NFL drafts a QB was taken #1 overall every year except for twice. One was when Mario Williams went #1 overall because the Texans addressed QB in free agency when they signed Matt Schaub from the Atlanta Falcons. The second was when the Dolphins selected Jake Long and used their 2nd round pick to select Chad Henne (whom they are currently not sold on as their future QB).

That being said, of course there is a "bust factor" with the #1 pick... but that is not just with QB, it is with every position. Is it a bigger bust if we draft a QB who busts than if we draft a DT that busts #1 overall? Not in my opinion... either way it is a wasted draft pick.

Just like many, i am not sold on Cam Newton, Blaine Gabbert, or Jake Locker being perennial pro-bowlers throughout their career, but I do expect one of them to be in a Panther uniform next season (if we have a season)

Going 4-12 or 1-15 is terrible either way. If we are going to suck, may as well get the #1 pick in doing so. Andrew Luck is the next big thing. And he stayed in college so he could get his degree in the spring. His dad already told the media that it has nothing to do with the Panthers...

Understood.
