Gabbert is not our QB of the future. He wasn't even that good at the college level. We're either taking Newton or A.J Green imo. Anyone else and I'll be sick, especially Gabbert in any round.

Haters

Yeah I know. But I will say he could also be a BIG TIME QB. He has the tools and good throwing motion. Really strong arm and above average accuracy.

I just am really scared off by the Nebraska game. If you don't think Cam is any good, go watch the Mizzou vs Nebraska or Mizzou vs TTech games.

He doesn't even look like a Division-1 starter.

But he looked amazing against Iowa so, who knows

Mayock is one of the most respected out there, garnering support from actual scouts and has turned down several jobs in the NFL.

He has access to one very important tool you don't, coaches tape.

I never said Cam was no good. I think he could be great. He could be the biggest bust since Tim Couch. I don't think you roll the dice with the pick. Cam's critics are referring to things you won't see on film- not yet, anyway.

C'mon what kind of lame excuse is that? If that were Cam Newton not throwing, it would have been a WHOLE different story.

Yeah, it's something I made up just to impress you.

He improved. What Mayock points out is huge. Reading the Defense. Not worth the first pick. I don't think Cam can read the numbers on the field without help from the coach.

Mayock is respected and is one of the best draft analysts but given that most of them are not that great, it may not be saying that much. For my money I trust a guy like Gil Brandt more. He has been there and done that.

If you look at his mock draft in 2009 he didn't have a quarterback in the top 10 and had the top pick as Eugene Monroe.

http://www.nfl.com/d...op-20-prospects

Here is how the draft actually went:

http://www.nfl.com/d...y-round-input:1

His top pick went 8th and was the third OL taken in the draft. The guy he rated as the second and third best on the OL all went before his pick. Stafford went number 1 who he had as his second best quarterback at 13. Sanchez who he had at 11 went 5th.

How about in 2010??

He had Bradford going 5th and Clausen going 20. The Golden Calf of Bristol who went 2nd at number 17 of the first round he had ranked behind both Clausen and McCoy who went in the third round.
So honestly the fact that Newton is his 3rd ranked quarterback means little regarding how things will actually play out.

So while his overall analysis is respected, his mock drafts and positional rankings particularly at quarterback rarely mirror what actually happens in the actual draft.

Honestly how would you possibly know. Did you ever have a conversation with him?? Who knows if he can read a defense. I don't know nuclear physics either but that doesn't mean I can't learn or am stupid because I don't.

That kind of uninformed bias speaks to another kind of ignorance.

Pretty much took the words right out of my mouth. I don't understand how anyone can have such a strong opinion about Newton right now, when his biggest problems are things we don't have access to. I think sports fans just really like to put their balls on the line and start player x vs player y arguments, when in reality, they don't really have enough evidence to support either. I have a really simple view on Newton, if you sit down with him and deem that he's a football smart guy, go for it. If not, stay away. I honestly have trouble understanding how people can be so adamant in their views with this guy.

There are plenty of people on the opposite side who are sure Newton is the next great QB.

I'm sure he has every ability to be the next great one. But he definitely has questions and things he needs to work on. But I feel that is true of any QB that ever comes out and i actually don't think it is exponentially higher with Cam than any other QB that is rated a high first rounder. Especially the physical side of it. His problems for me doesn't come from his projection to the NFL or talent. It is the character stuff. That is the only thing keeping this guy from being a slam dunk for number 1 overall.

Gabbert on film looks pretty good. Gabbert on youtube does not. There's a difference. =P
