Wasn't his press conference it was his "private" team interview.
I will only say two things and then let the anti-Cam guys have fun with this.
Without context this is hard to take seriously.

Let me ask you this. How many times has your wife accused you of being defensive when you really weren't?? Happens to me almost every day.

Without context hard to know what to make of this report.

The second thing is whoever the "source" is, is an a-hole. If you were in the room you do not take this to the press without an agenda IMO. Otherwise what is the sources motivation?? He would have none except to hurt Cam.

We have been talking a lot about smoke screens lately. How do we not know that this was the Cardinals trying to manipulate the draft to get Cam to slide to 5??? Why not?? Who knows??

Take this with a grain of salt would be my advice.

Thank you..... and another great post by Teeray.

Not sure what to make of this, if it was true then it would make me sour on Cam quite a bit... but I'm weary of stuff like this around combine/draft time, could just as easily be someone trying to scare other teams away from drafting him.

Winning puts butts in the seat, people wouldn't show up to see Cam ride the pine for 2-3 years while he learns to play QB in the NFL.

Give me someone who has a chance of starting day one.

Just how exactly do you figure Cam would "ride the pine for 2-3 years"? Is Jimmy Clausen/Tony Pike/Matt Moore going to beat him out in training camp year after year?

At this point Clausen would benefit the same if not more than Newton by sitting on the bench behind him. There are no FA QBs that are going to be able to keep up with the high octane offenses of the NFC South and NFC.

Cam Newton would dwarf Clausen in OTAs and TC and very well could be starting from day one. Imagine Jimmy being able to pick up chunks of yardage outside the pocket when his line broke down last year? Cam has more than an arm he can move the chains with (and I'm not even sure Clausen has an arm).

If this makes you sour on Cam then then the source achieved his agenda..this sounds like something Mike Shanahan would do..wonder if there was a lie detector test involved.

Vet FA is how.

Cam can't take a snap from under center yet, Moore and Clausen are significantly ahead of Cam, like it or not.

Keep in mind he has pointed to that year as the turning point in his life. he admits to making mistakes at Florida and claims he has decided to better his life because of them.

hell maurice clarett is avalible, lets give him a shot too. he says he has cleaned up now and admits to all his mistakes to boot....

The one problem with the whole "well he wasn't really getting defensive thing" is that Cam Newton has basically admitted that he did get defensive and that teams came at him from a variety of angles.

Nobody is perfect, though. Just because he got defensive does not mean that he failed in his interviews, nor does it mean that he did it in an interview with us (which is the most important for his stock as #1 IMO).

I may have missed it but he said teams "keep you on your toes". FWIW. Still don't know who would run to the press to leak this info and what their motivation would be :skep:

I feel confident that we'll pick a D-Lineman with the #1 pick but perhaps Cam Newton is worth the gamble. The kid accounted for FIFTY!!! 5x10...50 touchdowns last year. And a lot of those were against some nasty SEC defenses. How many did Clausen get? 3?

I don't know. Cam seems like a high risk for #1 since you usually want your #1 picks to be ready to go on day one, but maybe his raw talent is worth it. He just knows how to find that damn endzone. I can't wait to see him at that combine tomorrow. He had some issues with accuracy on shorter passes during the season, but that got better over the year. He was pretty good on the deep balls all year long though. His running and ability to shake tacklers is best in show this year.

I just need to see this guy get a little more mature before the start of the NFL season... which by looking at labor debate could be awhile.

Welcome to the huddle. I have only been here a little bit over a month and let me give you a little advice.

That was a very middle of the road, nuanced, objective post with some good logic and reasoning.

That won't cut it here.

First rule is be irrational. Facts get in the way of good debate. It is perfectly acceptable to relegate you entire argument to, "Yeah. Well you're a fuggin idiot." And that is an acceptable counterpoint here.

Second, with Cam Newton you can't play the middle of the road. There are two factions here. The "Nut Huggers" who are pro Cam, and the "Haters" who are anti Cam.

It is a bitter feud and you have to take a side. I am a "Nut Hugger" and I politely ask for you to come join our side of the fight. There are some rough days when Cam decides to talk in the third person and calls himself an icon and we have to explain that it is "endearing" and shows a "competitive edge" which we know is :icon_bs:. But we do it bc we can't give ground to the "Haters".

If you decide to join the "Haters" :( You have to make a commitment that Cam is already a guaranteed bust, a convict, ego maniac, that eats small children. He has too many questions, red flags, and daddy issues.

If you want to talk about Cam you have to join one of us. You think, "I can stay objective." I thought the same thing. Within two weeks Jackofalltrades, The real deal, MHS, and Scot from the "Haters" forced me to fully entrench myself in the "Nut Huggers" brigade.

I don't know exactly how it happened but now I just embrace it.

So welcome to the huddle. I am sure you will make your choice wisely.

OK first teeray since you have only been around for a month or so i have to wonder if you are a first overall pick TROLL. You know the type that just want to come in and talk about who a franchise you could care less about should draft.

Second your descriptions of the so called factions are way off. First the haters just realize what a boom or BUST prospect Cam is. yeah, he could be the rare running QB that defenses have to account for on every down..... but he could also be a project that will take a year or two to develop. OR worse yet he could be a man child who has his dollar signs in his eyes daddy make his business decisions. That does not mean i think he is a future convict or any other selected hyperbole BS you can come up with. It means i think there are safer picks. Fairley is another OVERHYPED prospect that worries me. It does not mean i think either are not gonna make it, it means i think they will make it in spite of themselves. if they do. The red flags are being waved and teams that ignore them could be very sorry. It's called buyer beware and Cam and Nick are the poster childs.
