True, but I think Rivera will have Smith more under control than Fox did. Smith was Fox's boy but I dont think Rivera will take that s**t if Smith stays.

yeah, but Smitty needs a coach that will let him basically be Steve....otherwise you just have a timebomb. Steve has always been a timebomb though that has gone off every few years.

If Rivera believes Smith wil lbe traded, there actually may be something to possibly drafting Green #1.

I'd agree, though I'd much rather see Smith replaced with a veteran pickup than a rookie.

Awesome. Trade away one of the only competent offensive players we have, who is on contract for a few more years, for a 4th round pick at best.

Sounds like a swell idea.

I wouldnt take a WR #1. Move down a few spots, pick up at least a 2nd this year then take him.

doubtful any team is gonna give up a 2nd to move up 3 or 4 spots with us....the top of this class just ain't strong. They would basically be a team trading up into where you don't want to be from where you want to be.

there is a risk also of trading down. trade down for player X and he might not be there.

Rivera doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who'll hang on to a player who doesn't want to be here just to "prove his manhood". He seems like more of a "you're not part of the program, so get lost" type.

We don't really know what his impression of Smith is, but if it's a bad one I don't think he'd hesitate.

Agree, I don't think Rivera has any interest in bad apples... I think he would trade Smith and move on if he thought Smith was going to be trouble.

I agree 100% and I feel he has looked at tape and not seen a guy give 100% in awhile. I would presume Smith flat told him he wants out and have a chance to play for an immediate contender and for what he has given us he should have that shot. Thing is in a year or so tops, depending on what moves are made, we will be back in contention.

I bet he is gone within a couple weeks of free agency whenever that happens.

I'm good either way. He'll always be considered one of the best players in the franchise's history.

If we get a vet to start, I can see him staying.

If we don't have a vet starter though, I don't want him around young qbs. I think he is toxic to young qbs. I know he wants to win, I think he deserves to win. I think on another team, with the right make-up of veteran players, he could go back to having a good time on the field and dominating.

Smitty doesn't want to play w/ a QB like Clausen as he gets old (or a rookie).....makes sense.

I can easily see that if a CBA is done before the draft, we trade Smith and draft Green.

The trip to see Green makes no sense unless we are figuring to be Smithless. Or we plan on trading down...or both. I have thought this for a while. What is the least you would take for SS? I hear NE, and I would love the 33rd pick back, but the Pats 2nd (60th overall) is about right.

I know others want more, but he is not bringing more.

If he's traded, they'd likely want it to be to an AFC team. Also might want to look west to put Smith back closer to his hometown (unless he'd rather continue to live in Charlotte for his kids sake).

Yes, that raises the possibility of trading him to Fox and the Broncos, but I don't know that they have as much receiver need as other teams in the AFC West (like the Chiefs).

Chargers could conceivably be an option, but I'm not sure I buy that.

Chargers (Rivera connection), or Pats I can almost guarantee it with my non existent sources

I have a hard time with the Chargers for need reasons, but given that one of their reserves just got arrested a short time ago, I suppose it's possible.

Pats come up every time a vet's potentially being traded, but they already have a younger version of Smith (Wes Welker).
