Kickoff change has been approved by the competition committee

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that kickoffs will be moved from the 30-yard line to the 35-yard line next season. Touchbacks will continue to be returned to the 20-yard line.

This appears to be the modified proposal that we reported on this morning. In that proposal, the two-man wedge would still be allowed. The competition committee initially wanted to eliminate the wedge and have touchbacks returned to the 25-yard line.

This is why it sucks that owners vote and coaches have no say.

KO returner less of an issue. Kasay can get it into the endzone w/ 5 extra yards. Most kickers will be able to put it in the middle or back of the endzone.

Hello, touchbacks. This might really lessen the demand for special teams.

You have to think that this could create a roster spot by eliminating Lloyd.

TEMPORARY

The idea is that this will reduce the number of injuries significantly. If it doesn't, taht will be obviosu in statistics, and thec ompetition wouldn't have a good reason not to change it back again.

I actually do think it'll wind up being reversed after a year or two. Fans and coaches will both be screaming over it.

Football is an action / reaction sport, the more action you have the better reaction you'll get = more revenues. This is counter productive in all aspects to me.

maybe, but there is always a chance Kasay can't kick it as far as the last we saw.....so he could still be short. I think Rivera was going to eliminate the 3 kicker thing regardless.
