Hey! another Cam thread!

Said it once, I will say it again.

I would be happy if the Panthers drafted Cam. PROVIDED, the Panthers also hire a strong mentor for him, either player, coach, or consultant. I don't believe Cam has any serious character issues aside from being influenced by those around him (who of us isn't?). Therefore, make sure those around him are serious, positive, and able to help Cam stay on the straight and narrow then the sky is the limit.

To me he seems more than bright enough to run an NFL offense. I only hope he feels being drafted is not merely cashing in, but one step on the road to greatness. Of everything in his past, his dad shopping him around at colleges is of greatest concern as it speaks to motivations.

hmm...

the most interesting part of all this was when Warren Moon weighed in a second time about all of this... From PFT here

And yes that recruiting scandal is still out there as far as what actually happened between Mississippi State and Auburn, and I think that story will come out in due time. And I think I know the real story of it but it’s not for me to talk about it right now.”

I wonder what the hell the "real story is" and I hope the NFL teams ahve gotten it. Most interesting is that it is still "up in the air"...

didn't feel it was worth it's own topic but yeah. I figure I'd just get flamed for posting "ANTI NEWTON RHETORIC" no matter where I put it so might as well save the people who don't give a poo about this debate another thread.

I just can't believe that some of these supposedly objective fans are picking Nawrocki's unnamed sources over all the people who have known this kid for at least a year. There may be bias on both sides, but at least we know exactly one side is coming from. We have no idea where Nawrocki is getting his info.

Hater.

Probably isn't that bad if Moon is openly mentioning it but who knows.

I don't know how many people are actually "picking" anything. I think the truth falls somewhere in the middle of "Pristine, Perfect Angel" and "RARARAHR HE IS WORST EVER" and it probably is pretty close to how Warren Moon explained all the entertainer/icon/third person stuff... "putting the cart before the horse" ;) Doesn't make him a bad person and doesn't mean he can't lead, but does mean it will rub some people the wrong way until he is humbled.

Pretty similar to my take, despite how it gets characterized.

I'm not half as opposed to the pick as people think, but with this crowd, if you're not 100% on board with him, you get proclaimed as hater, racist or whatever

I don't want any quarterback, it isn't just Newton, but if we pick him then I'll hope they were right.

I also don't think the "signs" are as clear as some think they are, but that has to do with reading how teams speak prior to a draft. It has nothing to do with "hate".

It's amazing just how stupid some of the stuff has gotten here.

Thats what they did when they hired Rivera. Rivera said it himself he is a teacher of the game and he hired a staff that he knows can teach as well.

I wouldn't make much of it. To me, he addressed the question the way he should, IMO. Being vague and not putting himself in the middle of a situation that doesn't directly involve him. To me, based on the quote you provided, Moon believes Cam is innocent and that butt-hurt boosters and/or coaches of other schools want to see him go down for not choosing them. Again, that last part is pure speculation. But the initial belief (that Moon thinks Cam is innocent of any wrong-doing on HIS part) still holds true. But, people are going to say that Moon is biased because he was tricked by Newton's charm and great smile.

The thing is, Cam has already been absolved of any wrong doing by the NCAA so why say the real story is yet to come out? Just weird.

I'm pretty positive he knew exactly what his father was doing, had no choice in the matter, and could do nothing but go along with it really, then tried his best to cover it up with the NCAA... but who knows, maybe he really didn't know.

Only care about it because it matters if he lied or not to teams and to a much lesser extent to the media.

Dude.... don't even try it...

Do you see Zod posting new threads linking crap articles bashing Newton without any sort of basis?

Does Zod post in EVERY Newton thread at some point talking crap about him in subtle tones?

You ARE NOT ok with us taking Newton. You've said in probably hundreds of posts "We don't need to take any QBs in this draft" (which I personally think is a mask for saying you don't want Newton). You've talked about how Gabbert would be ok PROVIDED xyz happens.

Is a little honesty too much to ask?

I'll freely admit, I'm on the Newton bandwagon. I have been since the DAY Luck said he was staying in school.

Why?

Because the he DOES have unique talent.

And...

Because the Carolina Panthers NEED a franchise QB NOW, not in a year, but NOW.

We either take a chance on Newton or we just continue to suck ass.

No, you get proclaimed a hater when you continually diminish his accomplishments by comparing him to JaMarcus Russell and David Carr. I'm sorry but if you personally failed as a professional athlete or you didn't win any sort of college championship then shut the hell up. You can't take away from someone's accomplishments if you didn't even do anything successful yourself. The fact that so many people are arguing over Newton should convey in it's own right that he is a talent and indeed a one of a kind athlete. However, when someone uses personal threats and attacks a guy he hasn't even met through second hand information that may or may not be eschued is flat out shallow and disrespectful. You don't have to be 100% on board with him but you also don't have to make him look like the anti-christ I mean seriously he is getting as much hate as Michael Vick received. I haven't seen any negative comments about the other guys in the draft. Yes, I have seen critiques, but I am pretty sure Patrick Peterson, Marcell Dareus, and A.J. Green have not been called fake. I mean hell, Patrick Peterson was lifted up and darn near proclaimed a god after it was indicated a "pay for play" deal might have been in place at LSU. However, God forbid Cam Newton to do something like this and people are calling to crucify him. Everyone always wants to bash Cam Newton because apparently he is a proud son of a b*tch, but if I am not mistaken he plays the game exactly like the Carolina Panthers own Steve Smith; with a fire and passion that is untouchable. If you really want to argue for or against something about Newton at least make sure it is factual or at least somewhat true like... "he has trouble with his footwork at times." I mean really? no really? really? whatever.

pretty big difference between being okay with a guy ending up drafted at #1 and wanting to draft a particular guy at #1

one implies that if it happens, you would be fine with it and the support the guy. the other is that you want that guy in particular.

I'd be okay with Newton. Would prefer others, but hey, the guys making these decisions know far more than me so I'd get right behind him and root for him the second he was a Panther.

Does that mean I want to draft him #1 if I was in charge of the decision, based on what I have available to me now? No.

Thanks for illustrating my point, guys

FYI: The whole "if we don't draft a quarterback this year, we'll never be good" argument is stupid.
