Ive finished my homework on Cam Newton's Character several weeks ago. I spoke with sources at Florida and Auburn whom I've known for over 15 years, also Auburn campus sources outside of the athletic department as well as local business sources and High School recruiting sources that dealt with Cam in Atlanta, Georgia were he grew up. These are the words used to describe Cam Newton over and over again; Has some immaturity only because he is still young; Great Kid; Always Smiling; Good Mental Toughness; Very Focused; Trustworthy; Very Good Leadership Qualities; Prepares hard (but will need to improve for next level) and Preforms Exceptionally Well; Good Person; Personality is a Magnet and extremely contagious. I didn't get a call back from Blinn College! Yes, he made some serious mistakes as a youth that are well documented at Univ. of Florida, has learned and matured from those set backs. As one Auburn source told me, after the Cecil Newton news hit, Cam pulled his teammates together showing great leadership.

I do think that his attitude can rub people the wrong way but I dont think that makes him impossible or necessarily even difficult for athletes to work with, but I can see how it might bug some reporters, perhaps some FO people.
I personally think some people were unimpressed with how Cam handled himself leading up to the combine and some of his third person stuff so that formed a negative opinion of him which they then shared with Nolan Nawrocki.

He ran the Panthers college scouting department through some of our worst drafts (including that disaster in 2005) before - for God only knows what reason - the Rams gave him full personnel control and he helped guide that team straight into the toilet.
Gil Brandt, Rick Gosselin, Mike Mayock, Nolan Nawrocki...all good sources. Softli? Not with a resume' like that :nonod:

Whether for good or bad, I wouldn't take much from Tony Softli seriously.

when you're considering spending millions on a guy you may just hang on every word, and a single poor response might be enough to turn a conversation. I dunno, I'm just speculating here, but I tend to think there is a point where Newton could be a good person overall and people could still get majorly turned off by him.

Just saying what sources have said to him. So I don't think his career success is realtive here.

Crazy how Mayock didn't seem like a big Cam fan but came away impressed with him after the Combine well atleast during the sit down interview he did. Anyone that has been around him talks positive about him and sticks up for him including our own GM.
