"With the lack of a bona fide potential superstar quarterback in the 2005 NFL Draft, Smith's stock has risen higher than it probably would have in most years. Some draft boards have him as the No. 1 selection overall, but I think he'll be the second QB off the board behind California's Aaron Rogers."

Yeaaaah.

Actually....newton reminds me of Alex Smith

One year wonder, great rushing stats, great passing stats due to talent around him/system.

Smith:
2952 yards, 32 tds, 4 ints, 67.5 PCT

Newton:
2854 yards, 30 tds, 7 ints, 66.1 PCT

Both had enormous rushing yards and tds, and both were supposed to "revolutionize" the game with running ability, and great passing ability.

I see about the same result if we draft Newton number one overall...

And the Niners haven't recovered yet. But somehow, we would be okay if we have a bust at #1. I guess we are in that much better shape than most teams?

Bc one teams terrible management is an equal representation of every team in the NFL and their management.

What team has bounced back immediately from a failed #1 QB?

They play in the shitty AFC West. A good high school team could make a run at that division title.

You're reaching, again. But yea after 4-12, 4-12 and 5-11, last year they were the John Fox Carolina Panthers at 8-8. This after trading for a QB and cutting the bust. Sure... they ALMOST made the playoffs. Remember, we are not in the AFCW.

But hey, at least the Raiders ALMOST did it with the guy I compared Cam to.

I hope I'm wrong, I really do, but I have the same feeling about Cam that I had about Vince Young coming out of Texas...great talent, awesome college player, but so-so pro.

IF the Panthers pick him, I hope he proves me wrong! PLEASE, prove me wrong, Newt!

Thing that sets Cam apart from Young coming out of College is that Cam is already a much better passer then Young was.

A mixture of different guys. i think he has Freeman's arm and size, but he has a little less speed than Young. i dont think his running is going to be as good as some want or think which means he will have to use that arm of his more.

People talk about Vince Young as a bust. Vince Young would have been one of the most successful young QB's in the league if he had his head screwed on straight.

VY's QB rating last year was like 103. If he wasn't a headcase, a lot of teams would be looking for the next Vince Young.
