There were about 3 of us who didnt buy it. Myself, Squirrel, and the poster Ohio were the only ones on this board with the guts to say they didnt buy the hype with Luck. Everyone else went along for the ride and didnt need to see much of him to know he's the guy. 98% of the people opposed to us drafting Cam are people who wanted us to draft Luck. Rayzor is the only guy I know who wanted Luck but said from day 1, if not him Newt is the guy, and he stuck by that when Luck went back to school. It was only after he went back to school that people started entertaining the idea of a corner, a WR, or DT #1 overall. So this entire board at one point or another lobbied for a QB. Now its "illogical" to want to draft a QB. LOL. Id have more respect for those wanting those guys if it didnt just happen after Luck. In fact, this offseason on this board is all about how those hurt by Luck rejecting us have coped and dealt with it.

Read the post I linked from myself... I clearly said that Newton was the guy I liked the most and that Luck reminded me of Skelton at times...

I trolled the hell out of the BLJS (even calling Dpantherman the #1 at the time) then like I am doing the BNJS now...

Speculated. Polian would tell you now it was Manning all the way.

Story was that the Panthers offered their entire draft for the #1 in order to take Manning. That's never really been verified though.

In prior years it was common to see teams start talking contract with the number one pick before the draft. More than one had an agreement in place already before turning in the card.

More recently, some teams began contract talks with three or four players. That way they could keep their options open.

I have little doubt that if Luck had come out, and the CBA thing weren't happening, he'd have had a contract in place well ahead of time (providing they could agree to terms).

I have no doubt either. My point was how some of the arguments have changed and how some of our reactions have changed to news stories or leaks now as compared to January.

As a matter of fact that is where the smokescreen and now speculation jokes have all derived from.

what's wrong with wanting luck, if he was considered to be one of the best QB prospects in the last decade, then when he didn't enter the draft, decide to select another position? If someone doesn't believe any QB in this draft is worth the #1, it would be stupid to draft any QB at #1 so therefore it is the best decision to select another position.

just like last year, if bradford had of decided not to be in the draft, would any other QB really have been worthy of the #1 overall?

there is absolutely nothing wrong with being on board with luck as the #1 and then moving to another position since he's no longer available. your point of view of those of us who oppose cam is completely wrong.

I beat you all to the Newton train, yet you're sitting here whining about how I'm so against him...

LOL! you call that being on his train? you only said he was your favorite "at this point" then went on to talk about his negatives, his maturity and ability to lead, and even made fun of how he looks.

I wouldn't call that a ringing endorsement. Don't act like you were riding his jock back in December. At best, you were only fondling his sack.

I'm such a hugger I was ok with getting Newton or Luck back when we were in the hunt to get the #1 pick...I've seen how our team has been dominated by franchise QB's and it's time we get ours.

Btw.since ol JR is readin the emails now a days..why doesn't someone just ask him if he is not sold on Newton?

what's wrong with wanting luck, if he was considered to be one of the best QB prospects in the last decade,

The problem is he wasnt. ESPN talking heads said that, but what GM or NFL Exec said he is? This notion that Luck is above this "process" (pro day, combine, etc) is laughable. Luck is unproven and needs more time in college to showcase that he's ready for the next level. Thats why Ive always said it was wise of him to go back and attempt to dominate the college game the way Cam did this season.

then when he didn't enter the draft, decide to select another position? If someone doesn't believe any QB in this draft is worth the #1, it would be stupid to draft any QB at #1 so therefore it is the best decision to select another position.

What we believe and what we need are two different things. The people opposed to us taking a QB always fall back on weak FA strategies to get a QB that dont benefit our team in the long term. What posters on this board "want" is irrelevant. I see people saying that a lot here, "I want, I want, what I want", nobody cares. What we need is a QB, that has not changed irregardless of what Luck decided to do.

we can nab a first round QB next year.

And you know this how? How do you know our draft spot?

just like last year, if bradford had of decided not to be in the draft, would any other QB really have been worthy of the #1 overall?

It depends on the team with the #1 pick, if their need was QB and there was someone there they liked, chances are they would've took 1. I dont understand why this is so hard for some to grasp.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with being on board with luck as the #1 and then moving to another position since he's no longer available.

There isnt anything wrong with it, I would just say those folks want a Luck more than they want a QB. Luck will never be a Panther, the sooner some accept that, the sooner their life can go on.

your point of view of those of us who oppose cam is completely wrong.

I think many opposing Cam have weak backup plans on how to fix our QB situation. Maybe if they proposed more than "lets just hope for Luck again" or "lets sign a scrub to get people hyped about Panthers football" people would take them a lot more seriously.

GDI, every time a pro Newton thread shows up, someone rates it 5 stars. When a aniti-Cam thread shows up, it's rated 1 star. lol Biased much?

Hey I was just giving evidence that I wasn't biased against him...

If anything I'm just biased against taking a QB at #1... but these Cam nut huggers don't see it as that and only see me against him, which I obviously am not...

At this point I actually hope we take Von Miller, Robert Quinn, or Tyron Smith just so I can see this place fuging EXPLODE!

lol

So much emotion directed towards one or two players is what you want to avoid in times like this... I learned the hard way with Peppers... hahahahaha

Anyone hear what the local beat writers are saying about the visit.? So far I have only heard from guys who don't really have that great of inside sources. if Gantt and Candler haven't heard about Richardson's reservations then do we really think these other guys know more??? Honestly given how little Richardson says to anyone in the media, for anyone to get wind of his feelings, it would have to be a planted story. We didn't even find out about what JR and Smitty talked about. How in the world would we find out what his feelings were about Newton?? He is beyond close mouthed to the press.

I am not certain Gantt would say if he had heard about Richardon's reservations. Earlier he said

I can't speak to another man's sources. Lot of research goes into No. 1. RT @sdanner52 whats the deal with J.R. not being sold on newton?

Keep in mind, JR also went on TV and smushed Gantt publicly, so I'm not surprised if he isn't exactly super in the know when it comes to JR.

The thing I don't get here is why someone would make something like this up (not saying it's true, but...)

Why exactly is someone planting a story like this? To keep potential suitors from trading up with us so Cam would fall to them? That is possible, but they'd have to be damn well convinced we don't want him since one would hope Hurney wouldn't be fooled by another team's rumor that JR doesn't want Newton, lol.

The only thing I can think of is that if it's made up, it's because someone is *sure* that Newton isn't the "kind of kid" that JR would like so they're just madly speculating. But Freeman's report sounded like his source was saying something more than that.

No one has said boo. I have hit them up a couple times but they seem to not know anything at all. No news, no info, nada. Nothing but smartass replies.

What we also don't know is if Freeman got his info before or after Cam's interviews yesterday.
