Oh no you didn't...I would have to disagree with this. No FF has come close to 7, it is the hold grail for RPG lovers (which I disagree, I think CC is) . You have to put it in it's time however, it was pure innovation at the time, an instant classic. Playing it before any of today's crap as long as you can understand this was a 90s game for the PS1, is much better. If you have never played ff7 or Xenogears you are missing some kick ass rpgs games and need to go play them.
If you have never played Chrono Cross however, and are a RPG fan, you need to go buy a ps1 just for that game, it is the best RPG ever made, period.
God I miss the PS1 and all the great RPGs for it. I hate how these long, intensive games have died out, when they just needed someone to re innovate them for consoles today. The content, value and stories where amazing and stayed with you more than a day after beating them.
i agree with you as far as chrono cross is concerned. it was easily the best RPG on the PS1, and one of the, if not THE best RPG ever. Cronno Trigger for the snes is awesome too.
i understand your point about the timing of FF7, and how it propelled RPGs and squaresoft (now square-enix) into one of the most successful game developers. i still think that it is a great game, but i just dont understand how it is often considered the best RPG of all time.
I have played and completed every final fantasy ever created, along with every other rpg ever made by square/squaresoft/square-enix, and I think that FF6 was probably the best Final Fantasy title of all time, and i also like FF10, and even FF13 better than 7. yes, i am one of the few who accually liked FF13, and i cant wait for the sequel.
