Agent: Tutoring of Cam Newton could be done by Brett Favre

Recommended Posts

anyone actually bothering to read the article and not talk out of their anus would see that favre has talked about coming back as a coach...not a player. thats what the discussion is about.

This author is really searching. This whole article is pretty much based on what Buckner would like to see and the fact that Favre said he would like to "try coaching qb's." Big stretch to say that Cam and Favre are putting this into place based on this article.

No offense to the "Great One" Brett Favre, but no one can mentor Cam Newton better than the guy whose already mentoring him... Warren Moon. Warren Moon's skillset is more similiar than Cam's and he'll be able to provide a certain amount of experience and perspective historically that Cam will be able to learn from. Brett Favre was indeed great... but that doesnt mean that you're a good teacher. Warren Moon has done the same thing for other young QB's and he seems to genuinely care enough about Cam Newton to stick up for him publically.

Buck's always been kinda slow.

Brett Favre is the last person I want tutoring Cam..

"You see them 3 defenders right there?! Well if you think you can make it! Sling it! Go ahead! Do it!"

Somehow I don't think Rodgers and Farve got along. I imagine dialogue like "Boy you must be some kind of *****". "Shut up old man and go throw another interception".

Who knows though. They could have gone cow tipping together

I think Favre would be a great resource for Cam, but here's the part I really liked:

The encouraging news for Panthers fans anxious to see Newton is that the new face of their franchise is already immersed in learning the team's playbook with the help of former NFL QB and current IMG mentor Ken Dorsey, who played for Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski at the University of Miami from 2000-2003.

So he's working with someone that knows Chud's offense... that's exactly what he needs to be doing right now.

It worked for Rodgers.

Rodgers wouldve been a good QB with or without Brett Favre. He's won a superbowl much earlier than Brett did. Sitting and watching means that you can also learn what NOT to do.

But even if we wanna attribute all of Rodgers succes to Brett Favre... that doesnt mean that Brett Favre could mentor Cam Newton. Its two different situation, with two totally different types of Quaterbacks.

come on. Whenever anyone hears the name "Favre", they're going to think he wants to come out of retirement.

You could tell me he's buying a stake in an NFL team this coming year and I'd wonder if it wasn't a way for him to try to get back on the field. ;)

we really have no idea. The ability for Rodgers to sit on the bench and learn for a bit helped him I personally think, but who knows. There are some that would argue that Rodgers would have looked TERRIBLE if he had been forced to play his rookie year.

Either way, I don't think Favre was mentoring Rodgers at all in GB. But if he WANTED to mentor Cam, I see no reason why he couldn't... great quarterback... though I do hope he doesn't pick up some of his bad habits of throwing into coverage constantly. ;)
