I said it then--ridding the big contracts, allowing the youngsters to get experience, having a low payroll going into the 2011 season was smart. It is not like we were slated to make the playoffs anyway.

whelp we had a top 7ish defense returning, peppers more than able replacement, 2 thousand yard runners and a QB that proved he could run the offense but nah we won't make the playoffs.

So by stunting the growth of our young team and drafting a team built for the old coach who he knew he wasn't going to resign, he set us up for future success?

Got it.

If by set us up for future success you mean we were so bad that we got the first pick, got Cam, and he turns out to be a huge success leading this team in the future, yeah, Jerry did a great job doing that.
