Is anyone here not really happy about the direction this franchise is heading?

Arguable about the backfield being fine without DWill is not even close to accurate. Other teams don't need multiple 1st round picks to power their running game. If we do need that, it's another knock on Hurney.

Davis was under contract. We didn't need to sign him. As for depth at LB....our deepest position, that's what scrubs are for. Good god.

I think I am going insane.

I would wait and reserve comment on the TD contract until we find out about the #'s.

He was scheduled to make $3.2 million this year. IF Hurney locked him in for 5 years at a cap hit of say.........about a $1.5 million a year but he could double that with contract incentives, then that is a damn good deal on a guy who is a beast when he is healthy. Even if he is just a backup type player, that is still not bad money. Now if Hurney went and threw 20-30 million at him then that would be irresponsible.

meh... i don't care about where they were drafted... if we didn't have DWill this season and had a repeat of last season (1st and 2nd backs down), I don't want to be left with JUST sutton. he's not going to get the job done

There are a lot of RBs worse than Sutton that have been called on in a season....and gotten it done. I mean if you have a fuctional and balanced offensive attack.....lesser talent will shine.

Mare is literally Kasay + Lloyd in one body. That saves money and a roster spot......that is only a waste if you can't look past being a Kasay fan.

Also, are DL is weak so a strong LB corp is a need. You don't sign Anderson and Davis.....and we are stuck w/ just 2 MLBs in Beason/Connor.

I do think the Williams money would be better served at CB or DT.

Mare is a long way short of Kasay, even with his declining leg. Mare has always been a 'good' kicker, never one that you can rely on without fail. At every increment Kasay has better percentages and a lot more attempts, even at the longer distances. It's not like Mare is a youngster either, he is 38 after all... To be honest, I don't have a problem with him as a kicker, but a 4 year deal for $12 million for someone who is 3 years younger than Kasay and the rules have removed Kasay's biggest weakness?

I never suggested you lose both TD and Anderson, but neither one has a glowing resume. TD had promise, but has had two serious knee injuries. Yes, rehab has come a long way for these kind of injuries, but there is clearly an imbalance or weakness in there somewhere. TD also thrived on his mobility, it's going to be difficult for him to retain that now. In contrast Anderson never really showed much of anything until last year and barely played in 2008. His contract is essentially based on one good year, despite it being his 5th full season in the league.

I agree, we need to ensure the LBs are kept strong, hence why I liked the pickup of Ron Edwards. The guy is old, but he will allow our LBs to roam.

I don't disagree with the signing of any of DWill, Anderson or TD. Just the fact that we have extended them ALL. Almost like we couldn't make a difficult decision to sometimes let players walk away. How often do teams give multi year extensions to non-cornerstone positions?

The only one that we extended was TD. DW and Anderson were FA's.

To be fair, and I love Kasay, but even moving the kickoff up 5 yards wouldn't help him get it to the 10 yard line, much less the endzone.

for several years i've been wanting us to move on from fox and those guys he was loyal to to a fault. we did that.

i was wanting us to notice that with the old team the window of opportunity was closing and get us developing some youths. we did/are doing that.

i was wanting us to start playing aggressive football and we brought in a new HC who likes playing aggressive football. the staff mirrors that.

i wanted us to quit being pansies wanting to go the "safe" route in draft picks, well we did that.

i wanted us to draft cam newton if we didn't draft andrew luck and we did that.

i wanted us to keep the guys that were strengths of the team and cut loose or at least bring in competition for those guys who weren't strengths of the team. we are doing that.

i wanted us to not be stingy with the cap money they had made available and they aren't.

i wanted us to be willing to part with guys who are holding the team back in spite of loyalty issues. we did and are doing that.

yes...i am happy with the direction the team is going.

New coaching staff. Headed by the coach I wanted a few years ago. I'm definately okay with that.

New qb. Whether ya think cam will be the franchise or not, we needed a new qb.

Contracts.
Johnson got paid what he is worth. I was expecting it to be a little more.

I have no problem with d. Williams contract. If it wasn't for the cba, he'd been extended 2 years ago. He's getting money he's already earned. I'm sure he'll be good sharing the load for at least a few more seasons.

Anderson got a good contract. We didn't over pay, and he's the best we've had at the position since fields.

We didn't break the bank on davis either. I'm. Not gonna worry about possible injury. I've learned a long time ago to accept injuries in the NFL. Try it sometime.

Every new coaching staff are going to bring their role players into the fold. That helps a team. Good thing.

The direction is a good one. Never know the bumps we'll find along the way, until we cross them.

I'm happy about the route were headed in.

I wasn't on board for the drafting of Newton, however he has the attitude of a Pro. Everything I have heard about him makes me like him even more and I hope he is very successful. If nothing else, he will bring some excitement to a fan base that has been stuck in an "it is what it is" stage for too long.

I'm also excited about the coaching staff. I think Rivera and McDermott are going to build a scary defense. It may not be this year, but it will get there. Charles Johnson deserved to get paid. The guy had a great year last year, and if we had anything resembling a DT, he would have had at least 15 sacks. A defense that features Johnson, Beason, Anderson, and (hopefully) a health Thomas Davis is going to be scary. Not too mention the work that Rivera and McDermott could do with Hardy and Brown. Our secondary needs some work, but I expect that to be handled in the draft next year, along with DT.

D-Will also deserved what he got. When Healthy, he is the backbone of this offense. He and Stewart together are lethal. Not too mention that he is one year removed from back to back 1,000 yard seasons where he amassed a total of 27 touchdowns. He fits this team perfect and hopefully Chud can utilize both these guys to there potential. Goodson is a guy that can be used in other areas and in creative packages. Goodson has the size and speed to be lethal on reverses and in the slot. I fully expect to see us run some 2 RB sets with D-Will and (Goodson or Stewart) in the backfield.

The only thing that would make me feel a little better would be for us to go out and get a veteran QB and a number 2 corner. I'm not sold on Munnerlyn and I think Clausen should be third on the depth chart.

To be honest, the only contract I sweat a little over is DeAngelo's.

Then I go read what Weddle and Posluszny got and I feel pretty ok about things.

Not happy at the moment of not signing any significant free agents that can really help the team. Hopefully that will change soon.

Deangelo was arguably the best back on the market and johnson was the best DL on the market...keeping good players comes at a price...id rather have them than not have them

heard that players were talking a lot about weddle's deal. no one would say what they were saying, though...just that it was pretty inflammatory. so bad that they wouldn't even say it anonymously.
