Realistically, our receiving corps is a great big bag of unproven outside of Steve Smith (who's old and has been nicked up a lot over the past few years).

I'm not necessarily in the 'need a receiver' crowd because it's a young bunch with some potential. But realistically, a Panthers team that can cut John Kasay can also swap out Steve Smith. Doesn't appear that they will, but stranger things have happened and this offseason I'm not ready to rule anything out.

While under yours, and the right definition, Gettis and LaFell are still unproven....they showed enough last year for me to feel very comfortable in what we have.

I'd give you pie for this post, but I looked over a saw that your pic was of Mike Goodson.

Sorry, I kinda fumbled on that one.

OMGZ Taylor Price may be cut by the Patz due to the trade involving OchoCinco, "sign his azz", "make it happen JR", "do it."

Just wanted to be the first before anyone else did.

A move like that for an "extra" WR that may or may not pan out sounds exactly like the type of move Hurney would do though. I hadn't heard that, but sounds really interesting, especially since it was heavily rumored around here last year that Hurney really liked Price.

Again, it's not a need and anyone else we add at WR would be a luxury.

Steve Smith said he is happy with his contract and hasn't asked for an extension. He has two years left.

Gettis and LaFell actually had pretty good years considering.

Gettis had 37 catches for 508 yards which averaged out to 13.7 yards a catch and 3 TDs.

LaFell had 38 catches for 468 which averages 12.3 and 1TD.

I don't know how that is totally unproven. Given how bad Clausen was and how enemic our offense was last year, seems they both did a pretty good job.

It they can do the same this year, Smith returns to form and the TEs take up the slack, it seems to me that the passing game will be pretty dynamic this year.

I think it's all about how you use and look at stats.

I believe they had those numbers because there was no other option most of last year. There were games when they played #1 and #2.

I think that most WR's in the NFL being forced to play the #1 and #2, play from behind, and take most of the snaps on the field will see those same type of numbers...

At the same time I think if they were on another roster they would have been buried further down on the depth chart, not had as much opportunities and had stats like othe #3,#4,#5 WR's who aren't their teams top option.

So I think the stats have more to deal with their situation than skills.

It won't matter who we have or don't if Cam isn't ready and Jimmy didn't improve.

I sort of agree with the OP. Imo, the coaches/management think they are in good shape with receivers. They will probably watch how Gettis/Lafell and perhaps Edwards do this year, and if they think help is necessary, then address it in the draft/free agent markets next year.
