Highlandfire 6 Report post Posted July 31, 2011 I could sure get behind that. Look at what's happening now, JR had a plan and is implementing it. Hell the man fired his own sons, if that isn't serious about changing your franchise I don't know what is. We are bringing in some damn good coaches with really good established backgrounds. We are emphasizing great defense and running the ball. We are getting a QB that mostly will just not have to lose games, but from time to time will have to carry them as QB's do. I don't know, but there is just something that I have been feeling or seeing since the Rivera hire and his coaching hires that makes me think JR is modeling this franchise after the Steelers somewhat. And honestly that isn't a bad way to go.

panthers55 5,719 Report post Posted July 31, 2011 Really a combination of the Chargers on offense and the Eagles on defense. The Carolina Chargles. Yeah, plenty lame I admit, but it is still the offseason.:D
CarolinaPanthers8789 4,525 Report post Posted July 31, 2011 Well we do have a hell of a linebacker corp. Top to bottom; from Jon Beason all the way to Lawrence Wilson, the Panthers linebacker corp in top notch.

Delhommey 3,027 Report post Posted July 31, 2011 If there's one thing that makes me think about the Steelers, it's overhauling your whole coaching staff and making a big splash in free agency.

The Steelers though have only had like 4 HC's in their entire history. I am hoping we look and see Ron still here 12-15 years from now. That consistency along with drafting extremely well, is why Pittsburgh is the best ran franchise in history.
Happy Panther 4,318 Report post Posted July 31, 2011 The steelers make the playoffs more than every other year on average and are an annual superbowl threat. They have had around 4 losing seasons over the past 2 decades. We signed a TE and all of a sudden we are them? AWESOME!!!
coralreefer_1 504 Report post Posted July 31, 2011 I'm all for the comparison, with the exception of the "great defense and running the ball" portion. Wasn't it pretty much unanimous across the board not long ago that in the league of today, that is just not going to cut it, that modern football needs a strong passing game? Not coming down on the idea of a Steeler-like team, just saying that maybe a run heavy team in this league is a flashback from a golden age we are not living in anymore. Teams have to do both to avoid being one dimensional. Look at when the saints finally won the Superbowl, they had a top 5 passing game and a top 5 running game as well as an improved defense. A top running game improves your passing game and vice versa. Part of the reason our running game suffered last year was lack of a deep passing attack and keeping safeties out of the box. But a great passing game without any running game can be shutdown as well much like New York did to New England in the superbowl after the 2007 season.
