Since they can't have as many practices in pads, I heard that they were thinking about using exercise balls during practice in the future.

While I can see how it can improve the strength of the back's grip on the ball, I don't see how it develops defending it from the directions of force application in which it seems to me most ball strips occur which is from the side and down from above the ball in such a way that the force rolls over the wrist and causes the ball to fall free from the back's grip.


I would think its teaching to keep a tight cradle and grip on the ball. So if the ball has an increasing pulling pressure, it would teach you to keep the grip and proper hold on the ball to deter the ball from popping out the backside

Nice drill. These cord exercises are growing in popularity. Tar heel fans may be familiar with JP Tokoto's workouts that are similar but for basketball.

This. It's a bit safer than having a defender jump on your back for a strip-ball drill. The cord is used to simulate the pressure a defender would put on the ball as he is trying to tackle you or drag you down. After some of those fumbles last season, we need this drill.


Also, Zod, I hate that the media had that little spot beside the RBs. I tried to walk over there, but they had it gated off at that corner. :(
