Cam is pretty big, and a psychical guy. I don't really see it happening much, i.e HB running all the way back around. I'm not scared of Cam getting hurt, he is smart enough to know when to step up and block and when not to so he doesn't get laid out, or at least I hope he is.

we should sprinkle the field with those styrofoam packing peanuts so players don't get bruised falling to the turf

All players must be wrapped in a protective bubblewrap prior to stepping on to the practice field. Preventative measures.

I think it's cool that he threw a block but I agree with McDerrmott. If he wants to be out there hitting the defense they should be able to hit him back.

Different scenario. The quarterback is inevitably thrown into a leadership role and is often measured by it(among other things). Stop whining about it, Cam is being Cam and if the team didn't know who that is, they do now. If he gets hurt before the season(throwing a block), I'll eat crow. Til then, let the kid play.

Explain to me how I'm whining about it when I previously said it was cool. Me asking a question in response to your post doesn't equal whining.

Perhaps Smitty shouldn't have helped out in this play?

I know this video is of a real game and Cam was in practice, but this is part of the game and Cam is giving it his all. As others have pointed out, you can get injured doing pretty much anything so what does it friggin matter?

P.S. - How do you embed youtube vids, the embed code given on youtube didnt work

They don't necessarily. As stated in what you quoted, it's my opinion. I, MYSELF, PERSONALLY, think that a QB should be able to handle blocking when he needs to. If you want a franchise QB, that means that even when the franchise runs out of fail safes for the QB, i.e. the run game, great defense, etc, said QB will always play hard and tough and never be fearful of helping the team achieve the goal of the game which is scoring more points than the opposition. You think last year Beason let up on D? fug no. He played as hard as he could every play I'm sure. That's how every member of a fuging TEAM should be, I don't care if you play offense or defense.

Perfectly understandable. I was just simply asking.

Great effort, dumb idea.

yea, it's nice to know that he can throw a good block, but i hope he doesnt do that again unless we are in the redzone in a playoff game.

Pilares was the one blocking the CB he had on his side, and I thought he did pretty well doing it. That was a safety or a different CB methinks, and I have no idea where Pilares went to.

Also, I have no response to your added note there, sorry. =(

Andddddddd, Smithy would probably have more of a chance getting laid out then Cam would doing the move he did.

Yeah, but DAMN...you gotta love the spunk of it! I agree it was not a bright think to do, but I can't argue that a QB willing to be a downfield blocker has the kind of fire I want to see. I had no strong feelings for Newton one way or the other when he was drafted, but stuff like that is certainly making me want to see him succeed.

Get out there and knock some dust & cobwebs off. It's been a long off season. Neither one was going full speed nor were they trying to lay anyone out. Cam hitting someone is different from someone hitting Cam (as far as the way his body reacts from the contact).

He'd get snapped in half in a real game.

Really? 6'5" 250lbs gets snapped in half? The late great Bubba Smith would find it hard to snap that man in half.

The way I see it is that if he had backed off and left Sutton hangin' on that particular play, the same people complaining that he made the block would be complaining that he DIDN'T try to block and that he left his teammate high-and-dry.

Loved it. Are people forgetting this guy is 6'5 260? hes built like most DE's for god sakes. Clearly he can take a hit, and deliver one as well. Let him do his thing, $hit like this will rally the team behind him and only improve team chemistry.
