i'm in the market for a solid external hard drive. i will be using it to store pictures thus freeing my computer the chance of corrupting the HD and losing my pics (it has happened).

what do you recommend under $150?

The 1TB WD My Book Essential editions have been on sale for $99 at Best Buy and Staples for a while now... we've bought a ton of them at the office and they seem to do fine.

I've had good experience with Western Digitals; and you can't beat that price right now.

I just bought one of these a couple of weeks ago, and it seems to be doing fine. I lost all my stuff when my PC crashed about a month or so ago, and I got this in order to save photos and documents in the future. It is a Western Digital, also.

The one listed in the above post may be more what you want, though. I don't need an enormous amount of space.

Externals seem to go bad pretty often, but if you just use them to backup they're probably fine.
