We beat Jimmy up a lot as being the checkdown king, etc., but I think it is just time to realize his limitations as a QB. The guy just doesn't have the gun to do it.

His game is gonna be made up of mostly short passes. It's just the way it is, and there is no point agonizing over it anymore.

And thanks much FDF for the report!

I've accepted it, but it's still worrying. What's gonna happen when the opponent stacks 8 in the box because Jimmy won't throw deep? With the system that we run, this seems like a dangerous predicament to be in.

Thanks for the write up.

Anyone else think we need a nickname for olsen and shockey? im thinking vanilla and ice.

Olsen's nickname was addressed in another thread. I still support Panthor. Shockey can be Baccus...(I think that's spelled right)

If they stack eight, Shockey or Olsen will take the checkdown pass and torch 'em for good yards. Honestly, with a full compliment of weapons, I really don't see either of our QBs having to worry too much about a stacked box. It would be just crazy to put all your cards on getting to the quarterback when you have weapons like our TE's, plus Smitty and our RB's to account for too. All Jimmy has to do is a quick drop back and get it out. Jimmy (or Cam, either one) doesn't have to be a superstar, he just has to play smart ball and be aware of his safety outlets.

that sounds good in theory, but we still had Smitty and the RBs last year. Clausen's gotta get them the ball before they can do something with it. Hoping for improvement.

They way Chud's scheme works....Olsen isn't suppose to be just a checkdown. He is suppose to be a mid range - deep threat......

Chud's offense won't move if a QB is playing the checkdown game......Quinn was pretty good at checking down in Clev. When Quinn played in 08 it mirrored a lot of what we saw last season.....Chud's scheme requires staying in the pocket and being able to consistantly take shots downfield (10-20) yards.

If Jimmy does what you want then teams will adjust to his lame throws and it is a repeat of 2010

completely different offensive scheme than what Davidson employed.

TE was non-existant in past offense...therefore not really a quick hit weapon

OL was hurt bad with injuries

DWill out most of the season

Other WR's were rookies

Not making any excuses for JC's play last year. But, comparing what he will have to work with this season to what he had last season is not valid.

I am VERY interested to see how both JC and Cam play in the preseason.

Oh, I agree. I am on the "coaching had a big part in last year's failure" side of things. I feel bad for what Jimmy had to go through and how he was handled, but the truth is that when it came to him making the throws, he more often than not didn't. The scheme isn't going to help him throw with more zip or better placement. I wasn't talking about his weapons, I was referring to his throws. I am also anxious to see how he's improved. If he still sucks this year, then we just can't try to defend him anymore...

for shockey and olsen, I liked "Co-Canes". I think Mac suggested that on WFNZ.

lol, while a funny name, it would NEVER find any kind of approval from the team or get used by the media...ESPECIALLY considering the U's history with producing players with coke problems...

Fwiw, Clausen can throw it fairly deep, it just takes him a while to wind up.

When are you going to post video, can't wait to see Edwards throw a pass, that jimmy couldnt throw lol!

You really quoted that entire post for a one sentence response?

Ugh.

Also, is a shovel pass similar to a shuffle pass?
