I've been Obama's biggest critic on here (okay, maybe second to Venom), but I also want to acknowledge when he does something that I agree with, and I agree with the whole "reset" philosophy with Russia. Even though they messed up on the translation thing, I wholeheartedly endorse the idea of saying to Russia "let's hit restart, and build something new and forget all the past crap between us." I really think Russia will respond to this, too. At least, I hope so.
The alternative would have been to draw a line in the European sand and said "don't cross this line." I think that would have been a mistake.
Thoughts?

Trust is irrelevant. We have to deal with them, so a new approach isn't necessarily a bad thing. They are nowhere near the threat to us (conventionally anyway) that they were during the Warsaw pact days. There really isn't much use in being hostile towards them. We can start new diplomatic initiatives without trusting them.

I believe if Russia were to embrace it's associations with Europe, and come to terms with the fact that the breakaway republics want nothing to do with her, she could rebuild her image...But with Putin, I just don't see it happening.
