Special Teams looked sickly.
-Armanti fumbled a punt that led to a rushing TD
-I recall at least 2 good gains being called back for "block in the back."

Defense... (Overall poor tackling.)

D-Line: looked eerily similar to last year. Getting blown off of every block... they looked confused out there. The o-line was physically outworked.

LB's- Thomas Davis looked all alone out there.

DB's- if anyone needs to get in contact with Chris Gamble, ask AJ Green... He's got his number... his email and his blackberry pin.

Offense...

O-line: Protection. How about giving our guys some. Im gonna get to Cam but if our line isnt going to protect either QB, I'd rather have a QB in that can turn a loss in a 15-20 yd scamper.

WR's: Catch the ball. You too Mr 89. Nanee... at times WR's have to block. Find film of Mushin Muhammad, get yourself some popcorn and learn something.

TE's: Greg and Jeremy get popsickles.

RB's: J-stew. Get healthy. Youre a bad man, but if you're not ready, dont rush back. We have depth. Mike Goodson: SLEEP with the ball in the bed! D-Will: see note to WR's.

QB's: Cam: 1.) get that footwork together man... helps with accuracy 2.) quit throwing the ball so friggin hard dude! use a little touch sometimes 3.) We know you wanna prove yourself as a pocket passer... but if that pocket collapses... run. Kinda like you did at Auburn.

Jimmy: Just because he's taller, faster, has a stronger arm and gets all the attention because of his swag... doesnt mean that you cant be a solid QB. Stay in your lane. You're #2... but thats because you had the number 1st.

Coaches/ Front Office: I hope you guys are seriously looking into the DT position... cause uhh... Cedric Benson looked like Barry Sanders out there last night.

Fans: I think its a little early to be pushing the PANIC button. I like that Cam hasnt turned the ball over. I honestly expected him to throw a pick or fumble a snap or something by now. He's had no minicamp, and no OTA's. It will probably take the first few games before everyone is comfortable with the offense. He's had some accuracy issues but some of his incompletions have not totally been on him. He had a great pass to Smitty that had he got his feet down in bounds would have been an awesome TD. I dont know if Jimmy makes that throw. Given the alternatives, Cam gives you more playmaking ability. I have him and Jimmy on the same level... experience being on Jimmy's side, but upside/potential being on Cam's side.

But having said all of that... the bigger issues that Im concerned about is not the QB position. Its hard to properly assess this team because of inconsistent play on both sides of the ball... particularly the offensive and defensive lines. Thats where we have to start.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw how hard Thomas Davis was playing out there last night.

About Cam Newton. You are spot on with you assessment of him and its been the most fair assessment here. I read on this forum one day that they shouldn't let him do rollout on pass plays because he's so inaccurate passing at times. Based on what I've seen of him, that's something that he needs to do more of. He doesn't have great pocket presence yet and rollouts take advantage of his mobility. I know that he wants to become a good pocket passer, but at least do things to make him more successful early on until he gets to that point.

That's true. There's only so much that lbs can do if the DL isn't doing its job.

Thanks. I dont think we're really seeing the REAL Cam Newton out there. He's out there doing what his coaches are telling him to do... which is good for right now. He's trying to learn the offense and be sure his team is on the same page. But Cam is a game-changer. He relishes the moment and he doesnt fold under pressure. They havent even let this kid out of the gates yet. But Im telling you, if He's working as hard as they say he is... He'll be alright. It just takes time. He's not just a different kind of quarterback... He's a totally different kind of football player. So not only is it hard to coach against it... but you have to figure out how you're going to use him as well. I think our coaches are still figuring that out.

He's got some challenges... but thats what his coaches are there for.

you're right. Didnt mean to leave him out. I think Thomas Davis just stuck out so much to me because we havent seen him in so long.

Not to mention rolling out cuts the field (and the reads) in half for a quarterback. It's one of the best things you can possibly do for a rookie QB.

Honestly I think that's coming from the offense at the start of the season as well as more running from him, the preseason has been more to work on his pocket passing which definitely needs it.
