I have to wonder why the Panthers refuse to utilize their running game more

Recommended Posts

They seem to be willing to give Cam as much passing experience as possible, is the only explanation I can think of.

pretty much. Thats the only logical explanation. We're gonna lose anyways so fug it. BSjeG.png

Because they are obsessed with Cam "learning on the job...from his mistakes" instead of winning, right now. Not that they want to lose, but they're clearly still trying to "teach Cam", as if he hasn't already proven that he can play the position.

They need to start making the right call, and forget about the "what's better for [insert name]" call.

So from that, I gather that you think we didn't try and win the game but just threw the ball to teach Newton how to play against a cover 2. That we want to inflate stats but that we are not doing what we apparently do best which is run the ball.

Is that your position??

When your stud RB is averaging 10 yards per run and it's still early in the second half and only down by 4 is not a time to abandon the run. But good try.

And that reminds me, the way the coaching staff handled that last two minute offense in the 2nd qtr, abysmal!:(

Did you read what you quoted?

My position is the Panthers should have run the ball more and called smarter plays in the redzone ALL SEASON, not just today. Today was just another example of it.

I didn't say squat about Cam Newton's irrelevant "stats". I said the only reason why they keep throwing pass after pass to the endzone as if you can't throw it shorter than the endzone and accelerate towards the endzone for a TD like most redzone TD passes usually are, is because those are the only passes this season that haven't come easy to Cam.

That doesn't mean they don't "want to win", like I said in what you quoted.:yikes:

I don't get the big deal. We ran for 178 yards this week counting Newton which is a season high. And we added another 378 yards passing the ball. Seriously people, there is no problem with our offense other than the pick 6. Special teams and run defense lost this game. When you run for almost 200 yards in a game how is that underutilizing the run game.

This is a team built to run. I love that we're becoming more of a passing team, but why waste our biggest strength on offense? Our roster simply isn't talented enough to underutilize the talent we do have.

I wasn't too concerned when our Passing game was the only aspect working...but we were doing really well. I guess we have to remember this isn't John Fox's Panthers anymore.

Look, those cute little catchphrases like "this isn't Foxball, blah, blah, blah" don't mean anything. Maybe popular culture has fooled many of you into believe that everything is about a name, a star player, a brand...but it's not. The good teams don't win because of the name of the coach or the QB. They win because they have a system that works and they execute it well.

The Patriots would KILL to have both DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart in the backfield, and you know what...they'd utilize them and they'd still win ball games, and you know why?

Because good teams also play smart. They make the right call, and the right call is using what works when you need to because you can.

The Panthers are 1-3, because they made the wrong call over and over again. You have a horse like Jonathan Stewart in goal line situations, and you don't run him ONCE today down there, or against Green Bay?

This is not smart play. Cam got you down the field. He doesn't need to "prove" anything else. You need a TD, and you have backs who can get it for you.

The big deal is the 14 points you left on the field in the redzone.

Maybe those 14 points don't matter to you as long as you're entertained, or your boy puts up big numbers, but this isn't about one player.

Cam is pissed right now, as are most of the guys in the locker room. These guys all want to win, and they know they've blown 3 games they should have won, because they know that since they should've won them, the teams they lost to are no better than they are on the field, regardless of the records.

My concern is losing players if they don't start winning. They don't give a crap about out good Cam looks. They want to win. And the backs want carries, and regardless of what you think, they've shown that they can get the job done and if they don't start getting opportunities, it could cause problems down the road. If this keeps up, you can count on Stewart not resigning here.

I'm far more worried about stopping the run.

We gave up 200+ yards on the ground while putting up 500 on offense.

Run D, ST's and RZ O our what we need to fix.

The absence of Beason and Davis reared its ugly head today. If teams continue to get around the corners and set the edge, we miss those outstanding LB's to kill the play.
