Because the players have pride in the way that they look. Anyone who has ever put one on knows that feeling of pride and respect that you get and they know that it definitely means something. It's the same way for some fans.
Because it's a way that the fan can identify or connect with their favorite team. Wearing your team's jersey is a part of our culture. Some might not like it, but it is a true.
Because the team is identified through the uniforms. The players market themselves, but it is usually through some display (or representation) of the uniform.
I don't get the whole hipster approach of bashing anyone who thinks that the uniforms don't matter. To some people, they do. If the uniforms don't matter to you, then it won't matter if/when they change them. Until then, some of us would like to know if there is going to be a change, some of us like to speculate on the change, some of us like to create examples of ways that they could change the uniforms.
For the record, I think the uniform will not change. Just the swoosh.
