The FAMAS was imbalanced, just like the USAS, you shouldn't be surprised. There was a reason that like 75% of the gamers were using one of those two guns.

RE: Captroop

I play on XBox, not PS3. I'm not sure who that guy is on PS3 that's been impersonating me but you probably shouldn't de-friend him because of anything I post.

RE: FAMAS

I don't think the FAMAS was overpowered. It was really strong don't get me wrong, but it also had a brutal reload time and the recoil was really random popping all over the place which made it weaker than most other assault rifles at long range. After racking up over 1100 FAMAS kills I switched back to the AEK as my main gun, even before the patch. Now with the patch it's pretty much useless, not that I care as I said I stopped using it awhile ago.

The only problem I saw with the FAMAS is that is was one of the most powerful guns yet it was SO easy to obtain. 10 heals, 10 revives? You ended up with level 10 guys running around with this thing and there was no reason for them to switch guns as they leveled up and unlocked other ones. It being very strong + so many people using it meant people died from it a lot... thus people got the idea it was OP and bitched... thus the nerf.

RE: Patch thoughts

One thing that really hit me in a bad way was the Foregrip/Supressor nerf as I used HOLO sight/Foregrip/Supressor on everything. Previously the supressor would give you a +50% accuracy bonus when aiming down sights, and nothing negative from the Foregrip. They reduced the supressor bonus to 25% and added a negative 25% penalty to the Foregrip (which makes zero sense) so you end up with no bonus at all. It's the same as running the thing naked with no attatchments at all.

Along with this they increased the random bullet spread when you're supressed while also making it so you become fully supressed pretty much anytime someone shoots anywhere in your random direction.

Combine these two things and the random bullet spread in the game is now pretty rediculous. I can be aiming directly in the middle of a guys chest from pretty close range and still have to dump an entire clip into him before he dies. This isn't always the case but where you're aiming vs. where the bullet actually hits now is so damn random it happens a lot. It took me all of one day to get really tired of this forced "spray and pray" effect.

Solution....

Bullets flying every random place... FAMAS nerfed (for those that used it)... think I'm going to whine or sit back and MAV all day? Nahh... enter: AS VAL. This was a pretty solid gun pre-patch, the only thing that killed it was the 20 round magazine but they've added extended mags to it, putting it in line with assault rifles and carbines. Since you're using extended mags you don't get hit with the Forgrip nerf, and it has a built in supressor so there's no change in accuracy from that nerf either.

Speaking of accuracy, it's the only gun in the game with a minimum 0.0 bullet spread other than sniper rifles. Basically, wherever you aim is EXACTLY where the bullet is going to hit. Same bullet drop as sniper rifles as well, meaning within the range you'll use it you won't see any.

Add the fact that it has a higher firing rate than any carbine, any LMG and most assault rifles (900RPM). Higher than the F2000, same as the AEK, slightly lower than the FAMAS which I think is still the highest in the game. It can go toe-to-toe in close quarters and still win those battles as well. Also, it has a very fast 1.6 second reload time (half of the FAMAS). It's just a beast gun all around, in any situation.

The only negative is that they increased the vertical recoil, although it's a very steady, very predictable climb. Once you get to the point where you can compensate for it, holding down just enough, you can continuously hit nearly the exact same spot, even when fully auto-firing, even at long range.

Add in a squad cover perk to reduce the supression effect (hopefully a squadmate has supressive fire perk on too to increase the effect on the enemy) and you have a HUGE advantage over other players at medium range. They have to burst fire (or at least they should), deal with random recoil pushing the gun all over the place, and even if they get their aim right the huge random spread means their bullets are going to hit god knows where. Meanwhile, you're able to auto-fire and still keep the sights locked onto them, and have dead on sniper rifle like accuracy, and a higher rate of fire if they are using anything other than the AEK or FAMAS (even before you factor in that they're burst firing). Who do you think is going to win in that situation?

I'm currently using the VAL for every kit, every map, every game type. Give it a shot if you haven't already. PS: I know this was really long, kudos for anyone that toughed it out and read the whole thing.

What's the secret to mav killing RnR? I haven't used it a lot but there have been times where I was flying it high above the ground and it just went dead, and I was high enough to where it wasn't shot down... I got frustrated with it and quit trying to use it as a weapon.

basically just practice. you can watch a youtube "mavtoge" video or two to get an idea where exactly you need to hit people to get kills but for the most part it's just practice. when i first started I could barely fly the thing much less get kills.

one thing I'll say is that the new patch made it so the MAV gets destroyed a LOT easier, not just when you kill a guy but it gets shot down now all the time. you really have to be in a situation where you can get a new MAV back into the action fairly quickly to make it worthwhile to do. usually I'll be able to kill a guy and get a new MAV back to where the action is before that same guy can even respawn. if you're in a situation or map where it takes you 30-60 seconds or more to get a new MAV back into the action then don't bother, it's not worth it.

as far as flying high and having it suddenly destroyed there's a chance that there's an enemy MAV that locked onto yours as that's an insta-destroy when it happens. also, bobbing it up and down as you fly helps keeping it from getting shot and it also helps to flank guys and kill them from behind. if you're flying straight at a group of guys that are all facing you and flying it perfectly level/straight then your MAV is toast 9 times out of 10.

Thus another MAV Troll is born.

Lol, my bad RnR, I could have sworn you were one of my PS3 friends, but I have a lot of Huddlers on there so it's hard to keep track.

I have used the AS VAL. It was fantastic, but I abandoned it because of the small magazine size. My roommate and I played TD almost exclusively, and a 20 round magazine is the kiss of death. I will probably pick it back up now for the expanded mag.

I totally agree Max, it was [slightly] imbalanced. However, there is a fine line between tweaking a gun to marginally affect it's usability and level the playing field. I would say what the patch did to the FAMAS is more akin to turning it into a jackhammer that shoots M&Ms. It is fugging useless. That is my complaint. They did much less to the FN2000, which is more powerful, and literally doesn't kick at all.

And I should also state, the only reason I really care is for sentimental reasons. The FAMAS is my all time favorite firearm. And I worked my ass off trying to unlock it, literally only playing assault class for weeks... And then it turned out it was a noob-level unlock with the expansion pack. Whoops. So in the end, I got it with no effort, loved it, and the fact that it was great in the game was second to my personal affection for the gun. Now I have to either use a gun that looks like a Star Trek reject, or one that looks like a giant vibrating dildo with a wooden stock. Yippee.

So I'm just a little salty.

I don't think "slightly" imbalanced speaks to what the FAMAS was. The gun was far too overpowered in the game compared to shooting one in real life. Didn't have enough recoil, and was far too accurate from long range. While I'll agree they may have gone a little over the edge on the nerfs, it needed to be handled in a major way.

I've played with some of yall before in other titles. Hit me up if you ever wanna squad up for some good verhicle action. I'm tired of trying to help someone out by riding in there tank in the third seat to only find out they dont have guided shells equipped. Same with all the Snipers never using the laser painter for Javelins.
