Mike Mayock Talks Cam Newton

Please, show me one spot where I slandered anyone...or even said anything negative (with the exception of pointing out how disgusting of a human being you are for trying to use the tragic Sandusky issue to show out as an internet tough guy). If you actually paid any attention, I only said what the reports were and that there were no denials, so some people saw that as a red flag. But truth and reality don't have any part in your little bubble, I guess.

Didn't Auburn teach you how to read? It was in all the papers and football-related internet sites. Well, let me spell it out for you. Everyone was saying that Cam cheated while at Florida, and I have yet to see one denial by anyone in Cam's inner circle. So in fact there is no denying it, that doesn't mean it's true, just that you can't deny what even the accused has not denied (which he has done regarding other issues). Thus, you must maintain the possibility that there might be some truth to it. And that possibility would logically lead some to see it as a red flag. And if you had paid attention to the post I quoted, I was responding to another poster saying there wasn't anything to lead Mayock to question Cam. So I was simply stating that there were reasons why he had questions about him. But read carefully, I made no statements of guilt, no claims that he actually did anything, heck, I never even said that I agree with the questions, just that they were legitimately there.

Oh, and don't sleep on the fact that kids often make mistakes, but learn and grow from them. If Cam did, in fact, cheat, he obviously learned from it and has become more mature. As I said, cheating can be an indication of lazyness or taking a short cut (which is why it leads to red flags that need to be checked out), but that's not always the case. Sometimes it's simply a stupid mistake. And if you're about to make a multi-million dollar investment in someone who was alleged to have cheated, you want to look into it further in order to see if it actually happened, and if so, was it just a mistake, or an indication of a deeper issue. Fortunately the Panthers had the resources and access to determine that regardless of what actually happened, it's now a non-issue, while analysts like Mayock don't have such resources, so may need to see more proof to be comfortable with the player.

Regarding both the cheating and laptop incidents, Cam openly acknowledged his mistakes in both of those situations, and went two years without a whisper of trouble until the whole thing about his dad came to light (and he was exonerated of any culpability in that.)

So, while they were definite red flags, they were also old news by the time the draft came around. A person can grow a lot in two years, and luckily we've seen that so far is the case with Cam. Mayock should have had concerns, but he should have also pointed out that Cam had no personal issues since then (since the mess with his dad was caused by his dad, not him.)

Unfortunately, the pay-for-play issue just made the entire thing blow up and seem more damning than it was.

This is not my fight, but as an observer, yes, I would like to see an objective report that confirms that this cheating actually occurred.

Just to keep the record straight.

Ahhh, I see. You are of the ilk that believes everything that you read and everything that you here. If it activates the nerves in your ear drums and sends signals to your brain, then obviously it must be true. Why didn't you say so before?

Oh, since you believe everything you read and everything you hear, why don't you believe the Blinn Junior College officials who stated that there if there had been ANY pending disciplinary or cheating accusations on Cam Newton's transcript when he applied to transfer, his request would have been DENIED.

In other words, Cam's transcript from Florida was CLEAN. If fact, *no* reputable academic institution in the country will accept a transfer student that has pending disciplinary/academic issues on his transcript until those issues are cleared.

Yet Newton easily and successfully transferred to both Blinn JC and Auburn University. How could a known cheater have done this?

Here is where you state a conspiracy theory to fill in the holes in your argument, slanderer. Hope its a more interesting read than your rote, bitter, and baseless accusations you've been using above.

Ryan Leaf is why i wouldn't be surprised. Picking Qbs is still a crap shoot no matter how hyped they maybe, and Ryan Leaf adds to it. So when it comes to Luck i will believe when i see it on a NFL field.

it's not as much of a crap shoot as you make it out to be.

people overlooked one very essential thing when judging both leaf and russel. intangibles. people looked at both guys and said essentially the same thing. big guy/prototypical build and cannon for an arm. there was nothing said about work ethic or coachability, which were suspect areas for both guys. the word was that since they were big guys and could throw pretty well, the rest could be coached. they were wrong. they paid too much attention to them being physically what was wanted in a QB, not mentally and emotionally.

luck, however, has those intangibles that they other guys lack, but he has all the physical tools. same with newton. the only thing with newton was people saw mistakes of his youth and what happened while in florida and thought that was complete enough info to tell that emotionally and mentally he didn't have what it takes.

with luck, there is no question. that doesn't make him better, btw. that just means he didn't have the baggage that newton had (and that he had left behind) to give people concern.

Actually, I don't see it as an admission in any way that he was wrong. In fact, it's just the opposite. Mayock has been very consistent on Cam. He has always said he doesn't question Cam's physical ability, but he just isn't sold that Cam will put in whatever it takes to meet his great potential. So now, while he is saying that he is very impressed by everything Cam has done (and I'm reading that he's talking as much about the work that he's put in as much as his performance), he wants to see it continue over the long haul.
i was being generous.

i agreed with him on the obvious physicality, but i have always disagreed with him on the intangibles. he's dug his heels into the ground, but he's trying to make it sound like he's more open minded than what he is. he isn't someone that can admit it when he's wrong. i think this is about as close as he's going to get until he runs out of excuses and qualifiers.

See, this proves your total lack of objectivity and bias. Mayock never compared Cam's workout to Russell's, he was just making the point that workouts are just a small piece to the bigger puzzle of evaluating players, and that even great workouts don't prove anything.

In other words, he was making a general point warning people about overvaluing workouts, not saying anything about Cam and Russell being similar. Heck, if you had gotten off your high horse long enough to actually listen to the entirety of what Mayocks actually said, you would have learned that he specifically stated he's not comparing the workouts of the two, but just making the point that you can't read too much into a workout in shorts...but then that wouldn't have fit into your agenda now, would it!

Context is your friend!

So why does he need/needed to continue comparing Cam to another failed black QB's work ethics when it was known from since the Combine that Jamarcus didn't have very good work ethics..And, was Cam the ONLY QB going off the draft board high during the draft? Don't recall Mayock really questioning anything about Blaine's accuracy and mechanical issues except to say they were fixable. hmmm.....

In all honesty, Mike lost it with me the first time I saw him on NFLN. He gave me the impression that all he cares about is the money and his own self interest. IMO, he seemed like a bitter failed QB and will want to back QBs whose agents pay him to back them. He had something negative to say about every QB during the draft but went all over the top with Blaine simply because Blaine is a client of a very popular media agent Tom Condon..

I u don't believe me go check out who Tom's clients are and see how they were treated by guys like Mike Mayock during the draft vs. the other athletes.

IMO, Mayock is a very small-minded man who seems to try his best to NEVER appear wrong without EVER given in to his small-minded thinking.

I'm so glad to see all the QBs who he found the need to scrutinized extra hard so his "choosen QB" can look good are doing quite well right now.

Don't mean to nitpick, but Mayock was a safety, not a quarterback

Mayock is on point on this. Cam is a natural passer. He's been that way since hs. In fact, the Auburn system doesn't develop QBs. Because Cam is a natural passer he can adapt in any system.

Andrew Luck is probably the most over-talked and over-hyped player that will ever come out of college football.

I would love for nothing more than he came out and pulled a Jamarcus Russel or even better, a Ryan Leaf. I hate Cowards. Argue with me if u want about him "doing the right and commendable" thing by staying in school. If you're a fan if this team and organization... Then there's no possible way you could ever pull for him IMO

Unless of course, you thank him for having Cam... Which if that's the case I'm FIRST in line!

True that. Amazingly he has a big fanbase in this forum. Wonder why.
