Can the Panthers afford to go Offense with their 1st pick in the Draft?

TBH, sitting at 2-8, most subjects are available for discussion. I get that the draft, team needs, FA targets, cap $$, etc. all change before April, but we aren't going anywhere this year. This season was and still is all about re-building and an eye toward the future. Anyone that thought on opening day that this team would eclipse 6 wins in 2011 was an eternal optomist and sadly mistaken. We should be happy that Fox-ball is gone and we have a franchise gamechanging QB that has exceeded all hopes.

I believe Otah will be back and healthy next year, fingers crossed, but when he's healthy he's one of the best in the game. Look how good the OL was in '08 when we drafted Otah. Image Kalil, Wharton, Kalil, Bell or Schwartz and Otah on the line. That would be sick

Fixed 4 u. If the Panthers do pick in the top 5 and Kalil is available, they would be best served to trade Gross and his contract while he still has some value. I can't see the Panthers keeping Gross around if they go OT in the 1st and Otah is healthy going into next season due to his (Gross) age and contract. With most of the guaranteed money paid out in the 1st 3 years of the deal, he could be expendable.

sorry to say this but BPA is NOT the way to go in most cases. Top 5 you can get away with being lazy and do that. Matt Millen picking Calvin Johnson anyone?

The overall prob with BPA is you do get lazy and you get trapped in unbalanced depth at a postion.

Pitt, Philly, NE, Balt and GB do a great job of simply never falling into this trap. They grab guys that are a younger version of the guys they let go. Thus, they never reach and they just reload into their system.

Years 3 and 4 we will see if there is a system with Riv and Co.

The Panthers obviously need to look for the best Dline monsters and linebackers they can get their hands on. An elite CB would be nice. Then, get another receiver and Oline. I'm sure Cam would love to get a receiver like South Carolina's Alshon Jeffrey. He's going to be star in the NFL like A.J. Green with the Bengals who used to play for Georgia.

The Panthers running backs look really good when they get a chance. We're fine there. DeAngelo Williams is super quick through those holes and fast. If only he could get nice holes more often he'd take a few to the house for a TD. Same thing with Stewart.

 at saying Alshon Jeffery is going to be even close to the player AJ Green is in the NFL....

Ugh, I can't stand all these "mock drafts" that have us taking either Couples or Blackmon. Man, I know it's tough to do, but if you are going to do a mock draft concerning our pick, study our team. Kalil for the win!

In all honesty they best move would be to trade down in the first and acquire a 2nd or a third in the draft and a first in the 2013 draft.

We will definitely be picking in the top 5 and there are several players that team will trade a lot for to get into our position. Yet nothing really there that can help us that much or worthy of that high of pick. If we move down in the first, to middle to mid 20s of the first, there will be plenty of value there. Probably Monti Te'o, Vontaze Burfict, Janoris Jenkins or any number or guys to choose from. Then we'd also have another pick in the high rounds of the draft and at least 2 first rounds next season. Best move to make to build the team in my opinion.
