What tenet of the Christian faith proclaims eternal mortal life for believing in God?

I am an agnostic, so I don't really care, but the guy is basically saying he died without christ and is going to hell, and that its sad to die without christ. That is a basic tenet of the Christian faith and anyone who has even a basic understanding of Christianity will understand what he meant. Why point out something that it not a surprise anyway. Its akin to bringing up a democrat endorsing Obama for president.

That's what he should have said. What he said was that Hitchens died because of his non-belief.
