Happens all the time very day. When I was 16 I stayed up half the night studying for a final and overslept. Was going too fast the next morning and the car in front of me slammed on brakes and I plowed into her. I felt horrible and the policeman could easily see how upset I was about the situation and the well being of the person in the other vehicle. He wrote me up a warning. No ticket. None. Me and my parents were in shock. Of course insurance still paid for her car.

Judgement calls are made all the time by cops. They sort of see the whole picture and make determinations as to whether or not the court system really needs to handle some cases.

Cops are just like any other group of people... some are really nice and some are complete assholes. I've run into cops of both variety...

Some people just feel the law shouldn't apply to them.

Bottom line, this guy could have easily killed a human being driving like that. How is he any better than a drunk driver?

Depends on what you define as a human being. If I saw somebody murder my beloved pet, "human being" would no longer apply to them in my book.

Because of the bottom line.

So now the police get to decide guilt or innocence? Awesome.

The police weren't doing their jobs. If you are breaking the law you get ticketed and/or arrested. No if's and's or but's.

So the player that was trying to see his dying mom....

Should have gotten a ticket for running a red light.

He should not have had a gun pulled on him and continued to be detained even after hospital staff verified that his mother in law was dying in a room above.

So now everyone gets to decide what is a crime and what isn't.

So if a strict vegan sees you having a steak, you would no longer qualify as a human being and whatever he/she felt like doing to you would be fine, regardless of what laws he/she breaks.

Excellent way to run a civilization.

Well I'm sorry, but I don't think he should have even been given a ticket.

If you are able to immediately show sympathy to the criminal who vitimizes you and are just as concerned with his rights as yours, perhaps even more so...then more power to you.

Any judge worth his/her salt would have dismissed it.

He ran a red light. He should have gotten a ticket, and that ticket should have been dropped by the court system when the circumstances came clear.

If someone shoots someone, and a cop sees them, the cop should arrest them no matter what. The justice system then decides the level and amount of guilt.

I think these guys are animals and I'm glad the guy chased him down. He still should have been charged as he endangered others.

If rule of law becomes dominated by feelings we're are in trouble as a society.

Well I can't debate that logic...
