I hate to be like venom, but with the Iranian threats about the Strait of Hormuz coming last week and now this, it just seems too perfectly timed to be legitimate.

Sounds like propaganda to me. These guys were held captive by pirates for over a month and they just so happened to get a distress call out as a US naval ship was passing by?

Actually, this kind of stuff happens quite a bit and is rarely reported, but it made the news this time because of the recent Iran threat. For example, a few months ago, a US cruiser stopped an attack on a phillippines flagged vessel, and not a word was heard of it in the media. Although I have no doubt the government saw the recent incident as a public relations/possible diplomatic opportunity and played it up a bit. And there is nothing wrong with that.

that's not exactly how it went down. Some guys were held captive for 45 days. The pirates then went after another boat, which was able to call for help and keep the pirates from boarding it. There happened to be a US force a couple miles away that sent help when they heard the distress call.
