For the record, Hurney was against the Olsen trade.

By the way, as someone pointed out, it's illogical to grade Hurney based on choices he made six years ago. This kind of logic is why you had people defending Jake Delhomme as "our quarterback" early in the 2009 season.

If it becomes clear that a GM can't do his job, you can him and move on. Clinging to what your GM has done for you in the past would've kept Bill Polian's job.

actually you should judge a GM based on what he did 6, 5, 4 years ago......

what he did in the last year or so shouldn't be weighed as heavily.

What Polion did in the past is ultimate got him fired. He built a franchise that was completely dependent upon 1 man being on the roster.

I agree. Marty should have a lifetime contract and get a statue out front with an erect penis that airplanes have to fly around.

lulz.

If retaining players is a priority, why trade Chicago a third-round pick for tight end Greg Olsen?

Richardson: "Marty said, 'I'm reluctant to bring this (acquiring Olsen) up because we talked about keeping our own players.'

I said, 'Marty we'd be crazy not to do this. We (can) take a 26-year-old tight end we coveted coming out of the draft.' "

Hurney has produced three winning seasons in ten years. That's miserable work.

If Hurney brings in so much talent and such, then why have the Panthers sucked so bad in his tenure?

Nowhere does it say that Hurney was "against the trade" - it said he was reluctant to bring it up to JR since they were giving out all these contracts to their own. Obviously he did bring it up, and JR gave his blessing.
